I'm thinking of getting a 2.5 or 5 gal tank for my pregnant female guppy, I bought a floating birthing tank for her but she HATES it , and I believe it just causes her stress, but I'm not sure if it would be ok to transport her to a tank for herself and then just move her back into the 10 gal after she has her fry. If I do, do I need to use the same water that's in the commmunity tank she's in now? Or should I start off with brand new water?(in case my water conditions aren't very good for a preg. guppy, I'm getting it tested today at my LFS)If u guys have ANY advice at all I would LOVE to hear from you! Thanks:confused:

If you can provide an established bacteria colony for the new tank, such as using media from the existing tank, then setting up the smaller tank will be fine. Do not remove her from the water--use a small cup to move her, so that big belly is supported through out.

If the new tank does not have an established bacteria bed, she's better off staying in the cycled tank. The stress from ammonia will kill any young, and possibly the mother as well.

Using the existing tank water will not help, either way. The bacteria you want in the tank are not free floating in the water--they are attached to things, like the gravel, sponges, the side of the tank, etc.
