I want to get rid of my undergravel system on my 10gal. It doesn't work very well and the pump is too loud (its in my bedroom) that and it is a pain in the a** to clean.

I reciently got a new tank that came with a aquaclear HOB filter and it is very quiet and seems to be very efficeint. Its a 200, so I was wondering what size I should get for my 10gal. Should I get the aquaclear Mini or the aquaclear160? Also what would you recommend for a 5gal, which I might also want to switch off the UGF system.

I'm really completely clueless when it comes to filters, but what I really want is to get rid of my airpumps.

All AquaClears have flow rate knob, so if you have one that is too powerful, you can always lower the setting...

If you absolutely want to go with the lowest model, Mini has the flow rate of 100, which is still X10 in a 10g - more than enough. On the other hand, 150 only costs slightly more (and has the option to cut the flow rate down to 1/3), but is physically larger.

Up to you at the end... :D

when i set up my 3 10g tanks, i got 3 different filters to do a comparison:
an AquaClear 150, a Penguin Mini-BioWheel and an Eheim Liberty 100.
the quietest of the 3 is the Eheim. the loudest is the Penguin. the AquaClear is also quiet. i like the Eheim, but its hard to find media for it at the local LFS(actually, nobody around here carries any anymore at all), so if you want new, its usually a mail order deal.

out of all 3, the one that i purchased another of is the AC 150. it's cheap and easy to find media for and a good filter thats easy to maintain. big al's has the best prices on these filters hands down.
