View Full Version : Are My Angels A Pair Now?

I've had one marbled angelfish for almost 2 months now and I added another small one a week ago. The small angelfish I picked out was being a bully in his tank, but when I added him to the 37g tank the senior angel started 'pecking' at him. He did this everytime the small angel was out in the open, so the small angel just hid in the plants all time. Only time he came out was to eat (while evading the big angel).

After about 3 or 4 days of this behavior, I came home one day from school and saw them hanging out in the same corner. At first I thought senior angel hadn't seen him yet, but I kept watching the tank and even though the senior angel saw small angel, he left him alone. There hasn't been any pecking or chasing since then. They swim around the tank, sometimes close by, but not really together. Then again I've never seen how a fish pair would behave, so I don't really know how a pair would swim.

Who can explain this behavior? 3-4 days of the big senior angel chasing and 'pecking' the new, smaller angel. Now there are no problems.

You will probably only know they are a pair if and when they spawn, the bigger angel may have just simply enforced to the smaller angel that he/she is bigger and so further up the pecking order.

When I had 3 angels in the same tank, they would sometimes peck and chase each other, and then other days all swim fine together.

Ah, that's good info. There's been no pecking at all since the big one stopped. I also moved the Dwarf Gourami to the 20g long tank since he was a bully and my poor Betta in the 20g long died.

Begging for food on the top. Both of them are piggys, but the small one can reach places the big Angel can't. Look at him. He's so cute with food in his mouth :)

Nice angels! All of mine are also pigs, always at the front waiting for food. My biggest will maneuver himself into all kinds of places in an attempt to get at food that has fallen to the bottom of the tank.
