It will raise your KH a little, if you're water is on the acidic side, it will buffer it in the low to mid 7's. After the tank matures a bit, it appears to affect your alkalinity less and less.
Great stuff, the sand is actually like a fine gravel. I find it easier to work with than Flourite when replanting, as it has a bit higher density.

thanks alot. you gotta lvoe this site.
btw how many pounds or bags of the stuff would i need to fill 50 gal that has the demensions of 4 ft long, 17 in. high and 12.5 in. wide.
1 bag fills a 10 gal so for your 50 I would get 5 to 6 bags. I believe it only comes in one size. I love this stuff.

I also like Onyx Sand. Wonder why Flourite isn't offered at the same size Onyx Sand is... ? I'd like 'finer' Flourite..

that is a ugly dog, everytime i see it i want to kick it in the face but only end up hitting the monitor. It looks like stuck up ***** that would bark and what not but run to its master and sneer at you making you look like the bad guy. With the help of my cat with lime helmet, he could easily be conquered.
Why do you gotta slam someones dog. I dont see anybody making low remarks about your cat thing:confused:

Looks like Joe could use a little Tequila to go with his Lime appetizer! (Nice pic btw)
Kinda off topic, but would loaches be detrimental to a planted tank with Onyx sand substrate? I know, I know, check the other forum!

My opinion by looking at the texture of my Onyx Sand is there would be no problem at all keeping loaches with it..
