I am trying to research some old books I found in my Grandmother's house that were published from the early 1880's all the way up until the early 20 century, around 1907 but am having no luck finding anything. Anyone know of any place, on the net, that specializes in old books?

have you tried Ebay or amazon?

These are ORIGINAL copies of books, like first editions. EBAY or Amazon are both pretty much useless. For instance I have an origianl copy of Theodore Roosevelts book called "The Rough Riders" I can find it printed in later copies but this was printed in 1902. I also have a copy of a book called "Boners" that was illustrated by Dr. Seuss printed in 1931. There's one titled "IA" that is authored by "Q" printed in 1895. A book written by George Washington printed in 1887 and yes it is THAT George Washington. Most of the publishing houses don't even exist anymore.

What kind of research are you trying to do?

The one I am most interested in is a book called "Boners:Seriously Misguided Facts of School Aged Children" although the book it simply titled "Boners". Apparently this is the first printed works of Dr. Seuss who was this known by his real name Theodor Geissel. This is the firs edition of the book and was printed in 1931 whereas hos own writings weren't first published until 1937. I am going to a used book store tomorrow to see what the owner's may be able to find out. Here is a link to the sequel to the book I have.

Possibly an antiques dealer in a large city near you might help? A library at a long-established university? I'm not sure what's near you in VA, but maybe you're close enough to make some calls in D.C.
