Hey Ive had a mini crab for about 4 months that i got from Petsmart. He has shed once since then and he(LT. Fumbles) is thriving in his 10 gal home. I have been looking at some threads and my crab looks nothing like the crabs you guys have labeled mini crab. At the store i was told he is terrestrial and I have seen threads on the forum that say these crabs are completely aquatic. Is there more then one species or is Petsmart just wrong as usual

Btw he cost about $2.49, others have said they cost ~ $10.00

Well anyways i recently picked up a female crab of the same variety so he can have some company. Can these crabs be bred

I will post some pics up when i get home

What most stores sell as "Mini Crab" are Fiddler Crabs, and not the same crab people here are talking about. They're mostly terrestrial, requiring a bit of brackish water. They can breed in captivity, though it often takes some work to raise the larval babies into the crabs.

Okay that makes sooo much more sense. What do you mean by the term "brackish"

he means that there needs to be a degree of salt in the water

Make sure you use marine salt, not aquarium salt. :)

"Aquarium salt" is just sodium chloride, not much different than table salt. Marine salt has a combination of minerals and trace elements.
