Hi!
My 65 gallon tank is one year old. I have 3 clown Loaches, 2 large angel fish, 4 cherry barbs, 4 black phontom tetras, 4 serpea tetras and 3 dwarf gouramis and a Queen Arabesque. They are all a year old.
Problem one is over the past two months I am plagued with this black fuzzy algae on the fake rocks, live plants and gravel. What is it and how can I get rid of it. I do have healthy green algae and a slight amount of brown algae that I remove every couple of weeks. My plants don't seem to grow anymore. I have a co2 dispensor from natural plant system but do not think it is enough so I am hoping to do a DIY system and just hook it up to the plastic dispensor of the current co2. Is this wise? I fertilize them weekly. The LFS suggested a flying fox for the algae. Should I get an Otto? I have not quite figured out how much to feed but I don't think I am overfeeding. I feed two times a day and just put the food in slowly and they seem to eat it all and then the loaches clean the bottom.
I have always purchased reverse osmosis water I purchase at the local store. Should I be using tap water? It was recommended to me not to as I would have PH swings and my fish would be healthier.
I have not lost a fish in the first year, so i have to be doing something right. But the other day, my black mollies developed I think velvet. They both died and I am treating the tank with Tetracycline. Have given two doses two days apart. Am going to do a partial water change and do one more dose on Saturday and then do another partial water change.
I know it is a lot of questions, but I think they are related.
Love your site and I really appreciate your help.
