Hey again guys. I wound up going with an angelfish as my centerpiece in my 45. It's a beautiful little koi, and I'm already so attached to him haha. He's still getting used to his tank I think, as he has been hiding a lot, but I have got him to eat so He's showing himself a bit more. This'll change eventually right? He's the biggest one in the tank, so he should start swimming out in the open more, correct?
Also, it's not all the time, but he swims slightly tilted sometimes. Is this normal? It's barely noticeable, I only saw it because I've been watching him for so long. Again, it's only a slight tilt. When he's swimming straight, he's perfectly vertical, but when he turns and stuff he's a bit to the side, but not really. That's probably a stupid question...

Yep, once it feels more comfortable in the tank it will come out much more :) And to your second question, it doesn't sound like anything to be worried about. Angelfish often swim funny because of their long fins.

OK awesome! I can't wait till he comes out more. It doesn't matter that he's the only one in the tank right (angelfish I mean)?

both my angels will swim slightly tilted from time to time. Your angel will stop hiding eventually. Mine have such a personality, that when i walk right past the tank, they follow me looking for food.

I can't wait for that stratusfearrr, and I'll put some pics up a bit later Rbishop. Maybe a vid too. I have a busy day ahead of me, but I'll probably be able to get some up today.

To answer your other question. Angels do fine solo.

One of my angels does the strangest "herky-jerky" dance when i come near the tank. It's a pig and always looking for food.

Wow, you guys know your stuff. After only a day and a half of feeding, he knows who provides the food to the tank haha. I'll walk up to the tank and open the top, and he'll come to the surface and sit there vertically in the water column waiting for the food to drop in. I'm already loving this guy.

Oh and by the way, I'll have some pictures or a video of him in my 45g showcase thread in the General Freshwater forum soon.

Great! Give it a few days and you will be able to hand feed him.. make sure that you give him a good varied diet, it will help him grow, all 3 of mine are pigs and will eat anything that goes in the tank.
I know others have also posted, but the random swimming is also normal, I regularly see my biggest angel upside down, on his side etc.

Ha, I think mine learned I was the food source in the first hour, lol. He's constantly at the front of the tank when I come near or even when I'm just sitting watching tv next to the tank. He's really smart too (no idea if male or female) and will "stalk" whatever foods I give that time before grabbing it. I can almost see him thinking as he tilts his whole body upwards to watch the food going in and catching on plants or whatever and then picking it off. He's even more interesting than the bickering kribs at the bottom (though they're pretty funny too).

 my angels will swim facing stright up at the surface before lights come on in the morning. i think its due to the light coming into the tank from the side, they seem to have their own little way of being 'right way up' depending where the light source is  so funny when they are all swimmign while standing on their tails!

Mine just started swimming at an angle that matchs the bigger pieces of slate in my tank, glad to hear it's normal.
