As someone who as spent years working as a domestic violence advocate, I find it incredibly disturbing that this article focused more on the death of a fish then on the fact that this man is a very abusive person. He beat and hurt this woman, no doubt hurt her prior to this which is probably why she dumped him, and it's more important to write about the dead fish? Yes, we are all fish lovers here but the fact is is that ALOT of animals are abused and killed at the hands of people who also abuse their significant others. It's a way to exert power and control. Please don't make light of this fact by laughing about hair extensions, etc. ok, I've had my say and will step down off my soap box now.

The idiot!
I could have kept a modicum of respect for him, if he would have stabbed the GF and only beaten the fish!
But here, HE CLEARLY CROSSED THE LINE! :jaw-dropping:

sorry i was not trying to make light of the actual situation... just the article. in my opinion it was our judicial systems and our medias responsibility to take the situation as serious. also i believe it's our judicial systems responsibility to serve justice. in this case i don't see as how things were taken seriously and justice hasn't been served. another epic fail by our judicial system. and the saga continues...

That guy is such a loser. I don't think they should waste any money on "Psychological evaluation" just send him to a looney home and be done with it.

What, another comment to appease the radical left?
It is all about THE FISH. She could have left him at any time! What can the poor fish do, catch a drain to the sea??? <straight-face>

on the contrary tech. i happen to be of those of little faith in our vast and ever present slum we call a judicial system. i thought some of the things in the article were... HILARIOUS. i don't think a big bad man beating his EX-girlfriend is anywhere near funny. i don't want anyone having that view of me either. REGARDLESS where they sit in lifes little game. i also don't think animal abuse is funny since i hit puberty either.

Dude! JK!
Try to keep a sense of humor, has always worked for me, on those dark nights, in those dark allies, when I face "the enemy" alone ... satire and dark humor can be your friends ... however, if I was the GF, I would have torn his face off before he touched my Betta!

what a creeper. he didn't have to do that to the fish...only someone with a really sick mind could bring themselves to do that.
thats such a poor way for the fish to die..out of water, AND stabbed. makes me want to cry

just goes to show you how controlling sick men are they are jelouse of pet, and just be lucky they didn't have kids as the same mind would kill the kids that she loved also to make a point,.. he's a wack job and he should be put out of our missery,.. then these kind of gene pools will end,..
he will try again,.. givin enough time,..
Sometimes people hurt animals because it's the only way they can show the other person how badly they have been hurt. You know, people who have a hard time expressing emotions and dealing with them. There is ALWAYS much more behind the story than the newspaper says.
I spent some time in the criminal justice system, and the things the newspaper said about me made me look horrible.
Anyways, people who do things like that are literally very sick. It's obvious from the article he was sick. It's different then people having a guilt-free conscience and fighting dogs, for instance. He was probably in a borderline psychotic episode, or atleast a severe mood disturbance.

wow that's crazy lol. I thought it was funny that her hair extensions got pulled out too. The article did seem to talk about he fish and not her near death episode. He could of easily killed stabbed her instead, or hid in the close untill she was asleep. I consider her lucky, sucks for the betta not sure why she wanted him to pay for the betta tattoo though, makes me wonder is she's all there too. If she wanted a tattoo in memory she should "want" to pay for it herself and not let the creep pay for it

You think the states judicial sustem is bad, you should check out Canada. The max time you can get is 25 years in prison. They call it life with no chance of parole for 25 years.

that story is just strange! i hope the girl is okay. and this guy gets what is coming to him.
also on a more different note what i find strange about this story:
...and called 9-1-1 from a pay phone.where the heck did she find a pay phone? i have not actually seen a pay phone in about 4 years. i have seen many empty pay phone stalls and stands but they have all been sans pay phone.
