I bought an 120Gal aquarium on eBay awhile ago, that came with 3 Red Belly Pacu and 1 'Fat Sleeper Goby'. The lady was selling the whole setup because they were getting to big for the tank. I don't want to get rid of them either but I can't get a bigger tank in the foreseeable future and I don't want them to suffer. :(

I found a LFS that is willing to take them in exchange for store credit. Actually 2 different LFS want the Goby because he is rare... I've only seen one other in the entire state. One place said they may take the Pacu one at a time/one a month.

My question... any idea how much store credit I should expect to be fair? All 4 fish are about a foot long and have the potential to grow to 24" long when fully grown. They are all in very good health and are extremely hardy fish. I read that Pacu are so hardy that the UN uses them as "food fish" for 3rd world nations and the Goby can be "fresh->brackish->salt" if acclimated properly.

Sorry to be so long winded... any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!

not sure about the goby, you can try selling him to other hobbiests, will get more money than pet stores. the pacus shouldn't get you much because most people cant take care of huge pacus and the stores get tons of those and oscars from people when they get too big.

one local store gives 50% credit immediately. meaning they give you 50% of what they are going to sell it for.

another gives 25% for instant credit or 50% for credit after its been sold.

round here that pacu is not very welcome. when the lfs lady takes one in as a favor to a good customer she sells it for $10 on a no return policy. the sleeper goby retails for about $29-$39 here- maybe more where you are at.
