How long should it take for a 55gal tank with eco complete supstrate to clear up. The tank went black the next day, has been set up for almost two weeks. She has added water clairifier three different times it cleared up a little.

i used eco complete in my 55 and didnt ever have any cloudiness, even when i used flourite in different tank it cleared in about a day and flourite is extremely nasty even after a good rinse. do you have any filters or powerheads running that may keep the substrate stirried up?

When I got my Eco Complete it came with some water clarifier hidden in the bag and I used that along with some extra filter fiber in my filter.

I used the water clarifier packets also and had a HOB filter going and mine cleared up within a few hours. Sounds to me like maybe she got some bad eco-complete?

Mine cleared within a couple hours as well. Tried a big water change?

Mine cleared up really fast as well. What type of HOB/GPH does she have running?

When I did my 12-gallon with Eco, I poured the water on a large plate, but still the water was really cloudy. That bag of Eco didn't have the clarifier, so it took about 7 - 10 days for the water to really clear up. (The 12-gallon is an Eclipse with the filter in the lid.) When I redid my 29-gallon, I drained the tank completely, put in the Eco, laid the empty Eco bags on top of the substrate, then added the water. Even though I had the clarifier this time, I didn't use it because I had very little cloudiness. Instead, I let the tank sit overnight and finished up scaping and stocking the next day. The tank was fully clear within a day or so after I stopped messing around inside it. The 29-gallon has two HOB filters -- an Emperor 280 bio-wheel and a TopFin 40.
How are you doing water changes, if any? Maybe she's stirring up the substate some when she changes water. Is there a large rock or piece of driftwood in the tank that she could aim for when changing water? That might help with turbidity.
