Lighting and a ten gallon tank

im guessing you would be using the 20" one. Im no expert, but i heart that the whole wpg ratio doesnt apply to small aquariums. It might be a little overkill, but i am not an expert on lighting for small tanks. i have a 27 watt light over my ten gallon and there doesnt seem to be alot of algae in the tank.

Where is the listed item and price for the 20" ?
You might want to run DIY co2

i would think co2 and ferts would be real important. 10,000k and 12,000k actinic wouldn't be my first choice either. as for algae that will depend on if you meet the other demands of the plants too. without fish i'm assuming you'll be dosing extra n and p also to meet the demand.

Dosing will be done to keep the plants in line, if I decide to go fishless, also the actinic wil be changed out for either 6700 or 10,000.

i think with dosing, 6700k and 10000k everything should work out fine.

I dont see a 20" light for the link posted. Just 12, 24 and 36 inches...???

To be quite honest...you'll see algae eventually. There are no magic numbers to a planted tank as there are just too many variables. I don't think you are setting yourself up for an uncontrollable outbreak but be prepared to deal with some in the future. It'll just take some adjusting to see what works. ;)
