My tap water sucks since it got cold out the water coming out of the faucet is really cloudy, so I've decided to get an RO filter. I just want to use it for the fish for now(I'll be moving soon and the's sooooo much crap under the sink), so I'd like to just keep it in my stand and take it to the faucet when I do water changes and fill up some 5 gallon buckets and pump them into my 90 which is like 49" from the floor, and being that there are little kids around I don't want to set a 5 gallon bucket full of water on a chair and scream at kids(more :( ) to stay away from stuff.

My questions are:

what pump can I get away with? In lookiing at pumps it seems like you need a really big one to pump 48", but that seems wierd, and I don't need any kind of strong flow
Can I do this with an RO unit, unhook it and leave it dry, do I have to do anything like empty it after each use to it to use it that way?

I don't know about the RO unit but try searching (upper right corner) and maybe something will come up.
As for the pump. If I understand correctly, you want something that will pump the water from a bucket on the floor into the tank. Walmart sells a "bait saver" pump (in sporting good section) for $20 that I'm pretty sure will pump that high. We use an older model at work and it pumps something like 260 gal/hr.
