Hey PlantBrains, or anyone else that knows, Why has my Tiger Lotus started melting? It has done well for 6 months, but now, it is sickly.

I dose complete Flourish line 2X per week at double dosage.
KNO3 to 10 ppm.
CO2 is 25ppm.
12 hour photo period
4.26 WPG
Temp is 80
Weekly 50% water change.

I suspect temp might be the cause. The fan in my hood, burned out about a month ago. I was keeping the temp at 76.

I had a heaters control element go out once which stuck the heater on, and the resulting heat spike caused some of my plants in that tank to start melting. First victims were my Wendtii, next was apongentons and foxtail.

Then I replaced the heater and slowly the plants have come back. Although the foxtail I completely pulled to avoid a decomposition spike and replaced with clippings from other tanks, the Wendtii and apons came back from thier roots up.

BTW, that is a GOREGEOUS tank. You have that lovely green carpet effect I still dream of. heh

I wouldn't want to tear that beauty down either! You obviously put a lot of time and effort into that tank and it definitely shows.

Man what a nice tank. Its perfectly laid out at that.... Awesome...

I was curious what is the ground cover plant? I am looking for somthing like that. I have riccia but my darn barbs pull at it when I try to anchor it. Does that plant reproduce fast? What I mean spread without re-planting?

Thanks for the info....

Spank,
the ground cover is glossostigma elantinoides. It grows fast and spreads out by itself, if there is enough light, co2, etc...

Shift,
Great tank, great glosso. You are setting it back up after the move aren't ya? Be sure to keep us updated when you do that.

I second that! This tank is too gorgeous and well done not to be resurrected. You're going to do that, aren't ya? Show us the new pics after you do!!

You do realize that when you come to set it up again, there will be three times as many plants as you can use...

...that's why I'm sending you my address...

(great propanganda for DIY CO2!)

Gang is there any online plant sales that sell glosso? Does it ship well?

I would love to get that as a ground cover plant...

Any suggestions. I can tell that NONE of my LFS probably even heard of the stuff let alone get it nor have it...LOL:rolleyes:

THanks...

Wish my crypts looked like yours..... My leaves just don't curl up like yours do shift... I am so jealous...ARGGGG.....

Also maybee this will work for your move... "wrap the tank is about 40 pounds of bubble wrap and then get a forklift to move it to your new house":D Or build the new house around the tank where it stands right noW! LOL... NOT FUNNY

Man I hate to see anyone have to tear down a tank that looks that good!!!! Its a shame...I remember when I had to tear down my 55 to move it 20 feet from the living room to the dining room. I cried the entire time while my wife sat there saying" AH QUIT CRYING YOU BIG BABY:( " Whats up with that!!! Doesn't anyone feel what we feel for our tanks.....

Man I spot a speck of algae and I almost fall over of a heart atack. At least thats what I have been told? BLahhhhhh....

Many online places sell glosso. I've personally dealt with www.aquaticplantdepot.com and they're a decent place to buy plants. Glosso isnt a particularily bad shipper, but planting can be a hassle. You'll want to have tweezers to plant each node.

:( ...that's like rubbing paint thinner across a piece of artwork, man. but you can rebuild it. you have the technology. you can make it better, stronger,... it's been a long day. sorry about your loss.

Thanks to all, for the great words. This tank is proof that you really dont need to actually know what you are doing to have a decent planted tank. I know what it takes to have a good planted tank but dont really understand some of it (like nutrients). I just do what the guru's on this page tell me to do, and it comes out well. It is a learning experience for sure.

Thanks to ALL GURU's. ;)

I will be replanting it as soon as I get it in place at the new hosue.
I am really scared of an algae outbreak once I get it back in place. I will just dose as usual and crank the Co2. Hopefully, everything will pick up where it left off.

RockHead44:
To take pictures, I turn off all lights in the room. I only take pics at night. as there are alot of windows in my tank room. Next, I turn off the flash on my digital camera. I rely on the light in my hood to supply enough illumination for the pic. This works well for me. Also, it helps to have a digital camera, as you can refine your method and not have to spend money on film, or wait on the pics to come back from the developer.

Spankey:
I bought a single clump of the Glossostigma in the beginning. It arrived dead. Some of the roots still looked ok, so I planted them. It came back strong. This stuff is very resilient and grows fast if you meet its requirements.
