How difficult is it to take a goldfish home 350 miles away?

I'm visiting in The Los Angeles area and went to a LFS here. I fell in love with some pearlscales here. I however live 350 miles away. Is it possible to safely bring a goldfish or 2 home with me? if so, what procedures should I follow?

How long does it take to come that far? two steps to take, are to inflate the bag with pure oxygen and use a form of insulation, such as a styrofoam box. There are lots of products out there for keeping fish alive but they are only usually used by online fish stores.

i think I would ask for a bigger bag? BTW i am not an expert so I do not know if this is worthy but heres my opinoin, ask for a bigger bag, and get the fish in separate bags..and go straight home from the lfs. 350 miles is a long trip but if you have consistant air temp in your vehicle. And you dont piddle foot around , those fish are able to live thru priority shipping, im sure you will transport them better than that.

Just my 2 cents, i think they will be OKAY

They should be fine in a large, half oxygen filled bag. Just drive REAL FAST and you can get home in about 4 hours...:joke:

No, seriously though, even at a normal pace I think you'd be fine.

Bea is right. I'd certainly ask for large bags and then get some backups. Have the fish double or triple bagged and keep each fish separately assuming these pearlies are rather large otherwise keep only at least two per bag to minimize possible damage. For long trips, fish should not usually be fed with foods a few days before traveling but with LFS, it would be tricky to know how much they ate prior to buying them so I'd just exercise caution by maximizing the space to dilute their wastes much more easily without it accumulating and killing the fish.

buy a 2.5 gallon tank get a battery operated oxygen pump and there ya go!

This is a car travel. How is he supposed to keep it from spilling during travel? On top of that, we do not know how many pearlscales he will get. A 2.5g tank is too much IMO. He could have tried an insulation box or cooler which is much more spacious and cheaper in the long run.

I use a 5 gallon bucket with lid and a battery operated air pump to keep my minnows alive for weeks when I go fishing. hope that helps :)

When fish are shipped to your LFS they can be in a bag for 2 days sometimes, and I've had transshipped fish lost at the airport that were found 3 days later with 75%-80% survival. Considering the trip from Israel they were easily in the bag 4 days and they were SW. Enough water with oxygen and secure packing and you'll have no problem.
