theyre illegal now from people dumping them into local ponds and the repercussions(sp?) that can result from it. i think its illegal in all states to release exotics into the wild, but the potential impact that the snakeheads can have is so catastrophic that they just went ahead and banned them all. i think thats it, in a nutshell.
people release arrowannas all the time over here as well. there was a pic of a large one caught in our(indiana) fishing regulations last year.

Snakeheads can crawl from one body of water to the next making them a major threat to wildlife because they can spread without intervention from humans.
Last I knew, arowana couldn't move over land from one body of water to the next.

Snakeheads could disrupt the ecological balance because of their voracious appetites... they are very aggressive & can even move about on land & eat birds & mammals.
There was an incident in Florida some time back that generated media attention, If I recall correctly.
If ya have one of those, just don't dump them into a lake or pond... or anywhere that has water.

I had a cpl of them a few years ago...they were pretty cool lookin, but ate way too much....too much for me on the count of them eating my baracuda...anyway they got out of my tank and I eventually founf one in my closet floor dead...I'd say it was a bad choice
when i was a kid i had 2 little snakeheads and i loved watching them. they would hide all day and ambush little feeders aas they got close. i was disapointed that they were made illegal by the time i got back into fishkeeping. screw people who dump fish.

People dumping their Oscars and Peacock Bass has hurt the naitive Largemouth Bass populations in south Florida. The Bass are not as aggressive and easily get bullied off breeding areas.. :(
