I haven't checked in at AC in a while, and I didn't notice until today that there was now an anabantoid forum. I'm a huge anabantoid fan...here are a few pics of some I've kept since I went digital with film:

Colisa fasciatum - banded gourami. These guys were very shy. I sold them to a club member because I wanted something more outgoing.

Male C. lalia and a male/female picture...both came down with bloat and didn't last too long. My LFS at the time seemed to have real health issues with their dwarf gouramis.

Male paradisfish. I've had a ton of these guys over the years...bred them a few times as well. Fun, high personality fish...cichlids have nothing on them.

Ctenopoma acutirostre - the leopard bushfish. This picture is about 1.5 years old now (he was 2" at the time). He's now 4 to 4.5" long. Another high personality fish - kind of like an Oscar in personality...and that mouth opens so wide and suck small prey in - very cool.

Just thought I'd share.

Jayhawk! A body after my own heart. Love the Hawks and anabantoids! Go Big Blue.

BTW, do you know where I can get my fins on a female honey gourami?

Honey gouramis are one species I've not kept...but they're high on my list for my next tank.

Do you have a local fish club? Members might have a lead for a store carrying some. The proliferation of Pet Smarts and Petcos have made it harder to obtain females of the Colisa family. A good local fish store ought to be able to order both male and females.

Eric, patiently waiting for basketball season

Nice paradise fish! I have two female albino paradise fish I found at a lfs. I have a female honey gourami I found actually at Petsmart. I used to work there so I got first dips on any cool fish. When I saw it I had to have it. Although I do agree Petsmart and Petco do usually sell male gouramis only. In fact my local Petsmart stopped selling Paradise fish. Not sure why.

My PetSmart stopped selling paradisefish as well...but I'd seen problems with their stock that kept me from buying any. It's too bad they're not stocking them - they're truly one of the most beautiful fish out there.

Thanks for the compliments. I wish I had pictures of some of the fish I kept prior to a digital camera - I've also kept C. labiosa, blue & gold gouramis, bettas...that may be it.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'd like to have a tank of honey gouramis, and sparking/croaking gouramis are high on my list of future purchases along with some of the smaller african anabantids.

Oh, and one of those giant bettas (whatever species they actually are) from Petco would be nice as well...those guys are sharp looking.

I had a pair of honeys -- a male and female, but the female died. The male is a real beauty, and if I could find another female, I'm sure he'd be drop dead gorgeous displaying to her. They are sweet little fish. Right now, Frick (the male) shares a tank with my two pearl gouramis. Everyone gets along fine unless Bailey, the male pearl, goes on a tear. Thankfully, that rarely happens.
