My options standing atm.
The black pug I was planning on adopting, the owner backed out >.<

I now have a few other options:
Pug X Beagle- the only thing Im concerned with is the barking factor. Beagles are very big barkers as far as I have seen and wont stop, as well I am concerned that this dog is going to be wayyyy too active for the pug breathing system. This could cause overheating and some bad problems in the long run.

Pug X Maltese- dont know much about this breed. Flat and simple.

Both are being adopted out of homes or a shelter.

Hard to say based on just what the mix is. The pug part as wonderful, my parents raised and showed them for many years.....crazy happy dogs! Beagles do bark a lot but have wonderful personalities so maybe the pug genes would tone down the frequency of barking. And maltese are pretty personable dogs as well. Go spend time with both of them, several lengthy visits if possible. And get the one who wags it's tail at ya and licks your face! ;)

We had a beagle mix when I was a kid. While I do not remember intensive barking, this dog loved to wander. He finally went missing and never came home.

I have a Beagle and he never barks or howls unless he is running a rabbit, then he yips. In my opinion, people associate barking with beagles because they see and hear them while they are tied up out back and are living in a dog house, which is how most keep their "hunting" dogs. Dogs are pack animals and need to be with their "pack" and that means inside with you. You will find they bark alot less when they have the attention they need and feel a part of a pack. As far as activity goes.......they are hounds and hounds for the most part will be active if given a job (most usually hunting of some sort), but are actually really lazy dogs if given the opportunity to be so.

My friends have a Pug x Beagle mix aka Puggle. He is so cute and lovable but very energetic. He does not have problems breathing even when he's running around a lot. However, because its a cross every dog is different depending on which traits happen to be dominate. Their dog has a longer nose, more like a beagle but I have seen some crosses that have shorter noses. He also doesn't bark very often but again, that might be on an individual bases so I would see if you can do a trial period with the dog before permenitely adopting him.

I have a beagle mix and she never barks. She's not as active as you would think either. But she is sooooo excited to be right in your face...lol. My wife and I sit in the floor looking at the aquariums and Sophie sticks her face 2" from yours waiting to lick you. :)

I had a beagle-springer mix growing up and she wasn't a huge barker unless she got really excited. She did yip and howl too but it is not nearly as bad as people associate them with.

The onyl reason I put up the question was because I had 3 friends with beagle mixes. They would howl over nothing! We would be hangin out with the dog and then all of a sudden howl non stop for 5 minutes!
