I came into work this morning to find my remaining amano shrimp lying dried up in the floor, down the hall in front of the conference room. Looks like he made it a good 20 feet after crawling out of the tank and getting off the desk.
ARGH!
I never did find the first one that got away. I bought two of them months ago.

they remind me of grasshoppers with how they move.
arrggh indeed!...annoying isn't it...
I 'mysteriously' lost several red claw macro shrimp out of my original group. I found one dried up behind the tanks. I wonder if the others also got out and got further...I figure the cats may have had a new toy and a crunchy snack.
That may explain a few of my missing amanos too...

Same thing happened to atleast 1 of my shrimp. I was laying on the floor of my apartment when suddenly I saw something move in front of me. I about swatted it thinking it was a bug, but when I looked closer it was one of my amano shrimp. It was about 15' from the tank and still walking around.
I got him back in the tank though I can't say if he made it very long.

haha this reminds me of when I was keeping crayfish that we caught from a pond. One morning we couldn't find one of them. We searched and searched and found him about four hours later making a slow walk to the door. I tried to put him back but he was a gonner.

With the amanos I have to wonder if they're trying to get to water where they can release their eggs....as they do in nature? I keep my heaters vertical on the back of the tanks where I can easily reach the temperature adjust knobs if I have to....but they could climb out easily from there, so I pushed them all down further into the tanks.

more like roaches.... at least thats what i think when dealing with them. freaking stupid things jump right as you put them in the bag.... then crawl all over the floor.

I had three amanos vanish out of my planted 5.5 a few years ago. i wondered for months what had happened to them. They shared the tank with a few white clouds, and some male cherry barbs, no sign of them in the filter either. To this day they are still M.I.A.

I think my dogs would find any shrimp on the floor before me. :(
