Most of ya'll seem like pretty cool people, so therefore I'm sure at least a few of my fellow AC members ride motorcycles. So consider this an AC Rough Ryder Roll Call, post your bike here.
As I am probably famous for, I don't have a camera ATM. I'll see if I can borrow a neighbors real quick. I've been riding for 1 1/2yrs and currently have about 9k miles under my belt(still a rookie). My current ride is a basically stock '07 CBR1000RR.

I ride a little.
I have a 2003 Honda VTX 1800
It has the Pro Hypercharger, Vance & Hines Big shots Pipes, and a power commander with the accellorator pump boost option. Its crazy fast..
and looks like a sleeper.

I finally have some $$ set aside for a digital camera, I've been shopping around a bit this week so hopefully I will have a new camera soon...
NIce bike zigman, I love shaft-driven touring bikes.

I probably shouldn't reply because you asked who rides, not who has a motorcycle collecting dust...but I'll post a pic of it anyway.

It really needs to get ridden. Machinery should never sit.

After I broke every rib I have, my sternum, my femur and ripping the entire left side of my face off I won't even look at anything of the sorts.

Bubbles, that's why I'm not riding. I have three small children. The youngest of which is still nursing. I just cannot take the chance that some unobservant jerk will make a left turn in front of me or that I'll cream into the side of a deer. (We are totally over run with deer here.) So, my bike sits. It kills me that it's sitting. I am going to have to replace every gasket in it when I finally decide to get it out. I had hoped to find someone to ride it but I've not found anyone trustworthy enough for me. Trustworthy means they don't drink and ride. So many people like to go get a beer on their bikes and that's their business...but I don't want them doing it on my bike. I've got a lot of cash into that thing.

i'll ride if given the chance... but don't own. i can get outta hand and i know it. dad has had both legs reconstructed several times and my step mom is missing a leg and it's a good reminder of what i'd do myself let alone who i'd have to watch out for.
besides that the good one is:
6:00 am... 6th birthday...
i wake up shaken frantically... stepmom's on the phone wiggin' out... looking for a babysitter in the next 5 minutes... throwing things in bags, grabs her keys and tosses me in the car. we go for a little ride and park in front of an ambulance. we get out and round the ambulance to see my dad laying under his bike out cold.
they lift up the bike and his body stays limp. he was under the bike a bit and i notice there are several cars damaged in a row and an oil slick and spots leading up to the first damaged car.
the next thing i notice:
his leg... just his leg, almost from the crotch... is lifting up with the bike... and he's not. another look around and i see clumps of meat and blood the size of my head all over the road. it hit me... he's DEAD. then his leg drops.
they let me see him 2 days later. he was half body casted with pins sticking out of his cast from his hip to his ankle. every part of his skin i could see was purple, black or missing chunks. he was alive (obviously) and very encouraging (for being in his condition and hopped up on everything in the hospital).
that was probably the single most devastating point of my life. i'll never forget it.
i do want to ride soooooo bad though. i just don't buy a bike when i have the money. it's in my blood and i'll probably own one day. pop was in iron horsemen MC SMD (southern maryland). his dad and his grandfather both ran off with the hells angels.
i figure once my midlife crisis hits. :)

Wow, Dun, that's a dramatic story and I am so sorry your dad got hurt like that and that you had to see him so hurt and then recouperate.
You are wise to know your own temperament and to hold off on a bike til you are a bit more settled. It sounds like it's definitely in your blood though!
I am sure you fully understand why, as a mother to small children, my bike is parked. The experience of being in the wind on an open road through nature is really not something you can capture except on a bike. It's a wonderful thing but full of hazards too. I clearly remember the moment I was looking down at my knees and legs and thought "those are my fenders". It makes you slow down a bit!

Jamie, ever had any close calls on that bike? I hear so often of rude car operators completely disrespecting bicycle riders. Have you had any trouble?
JamieB
10-31-2009, 11:04 PM
Yes, i have had a few close calls and few times drivers have driven me off the road. I just obey the laws here and hope that people share the road, after all diving is a privilege and not a right. There are Bike riders that are just as careless as some drivers, no reason why the roads can not accommodate both.
PuppyFluffer
10-31-2009, 11:12 PM
I live on a road that is just too narrow to safely accomodate both. It is narrow, very windy turns and no shoulders to speak of. People do bike it...but I don't think I'd want to.
I know someone who got totally plowed by a dog. He went down and seriously dislocated his shoulder. I felt bad for the guy. He was really laid up for a long while. The bottom line is that we all have to be careful on the road!

yeah sorry to hear that story, narrow roads are tough ,I try and stay in bike lanes and ride mostly in parks.

Dont be afraid to have fun once in a while
I'm not saying to take unnecessary risks and ride like an idiot, just be careful when you're out there. I have had more than a few friends injured or dead in bad bike accidents, and I have also have had freinds die playing golf, mowing the grass, and other seemingly non dangerous things.
Motorcyles arent bad, you just need to be more careful and alert to your surroundings than you would in a car, and of course they offer little protection in the event of a crash. dont live in fear of having fun. have fun and be careful. Just because you ride doesnt mean you're going to get killed in a Motorcycle accident.

i completely understand... absolutely. what's even funnier/worse is that is just one of a dozen or so stories i could tell that are similar. they just didn't touch me the same... for obvious reasons. i've had several friends/family friends die on bikes. i've also been hit by a guy on a bike while waiting to make a left turn. the guy lost his legs and partial brain and organ functions and then tried to sue me for $6 million. 3.5 hours driving to see the lawyers in a conference room and get hounded for 1.5 hours without a chance for rebutal and the whole thing was settled with one sentence from me. i said basically "don't waste my time until you have a copy of the police report" they made a phone call... walked to the fax machine and dismissed me upon return. thank god there was witnesses and i was the one who arranged for his medivac. his helmet was grinded off and his head was pinned under the guardrail with his leg resting about 50 feet from his body so that was kinda traumatizing and rekindled old memories for about 2 years or so. the part i can't understand is my family were the only ones to visit or care for him while he was hospitalized and the jerk still tried to take me to the bank knowing full well he was at fault, completely illegal, drunk and riding at almost 2 am with no headlights. i was in high school when it happened and just out when he tried to sue. he could have single handedly ruined my whole life if it weren't for that police report. i still think about him from time to time but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth instead of sorrow since he was in the wrong and still tried to screw me.

i agree... i've had quite a few motorized toys myself. even my go karts have done a minimum of 60 mph. i'm just hesitant to purchase a cycle for obvious reasons.
