My packages are taking much longer than normal to arrive. Instead of 3 days, 5 is becoming the average. Has anyone else noticed this?

They've been getting lazy again. I also sense another strike.

its troublesome as instead of most packages being sorted the first day, its taking on average of 3 days.

I agree. Even priority is slower. They take to the upper range to make short deliveries.

I just received some fish yesterday sent Priority from CA to PA in 2 days, so I'll have to vote no.

What about next day shipping? I hope they're not screwing up that too.

I haven't had any issues with express. And i haven't had any losses shipping with USPS, it just seems like on average instead of taking 3 days its taking 4 or 5.

I've experienced delays, but strangely enough, it's only in the Northeast area.
Actually yes... but not terrible and they're within the three day window for priority...
But priority was always 2 days anywhere on the east coast. Recently most have taken 3 days. Still within the time they promise- but taking an extra day.

For a while now they've been cutting people's hours and cutting out any OT in this area. So maybe that has something to do with it. This week I sent to IN, MN, AZ and FL leaving on Monday and all packages arrived Wednesday.
Rach did you ask about it at your post office?
I Priority mailed a package from the Cleveland Airport Post office Sunday evening. It arrived in Winchester KY (~80 mi from Cincinatti) on Thursday.
...and it went thru PA to get there. WTH?
I would have expected it to be delivered Wed at the latest.
Now if I had sent it to Los Angeles, it would have been on a plane Sun night and probably delivered Tuesday...

Yea I did...all they can do is shrug. Its 8 packages so far that have been this delayed, makes me want to find optional shipping honestly.

debbi is right- i know a few big wigs in the new jersey post offices and they said that theyve been cutting back on hours and man power. i also know a couple of carriers and they have been given bigger work loads and they cant keep up.

I have a similar issue, everything but local mail gets sent to a central sorting site downstate and routed from there. I once sent out a Priority Mail package to a nearby city (about a 2 hour drive from here) on a Monday that arrived the following Friday. :screwy:
I have to ship out a package of fish to IA in the morning, I'm hoping they'll arrive Monday. Since they didn't raise the First Class postage rate this year I suppose they're cutting back even further on other costs (like pickup/delivery routes...)
UPS and FedEx are just as bad and usually charge more, so what can you do?

I shipped a package that took an extra day to get there, and received one that took two extra days, and one that took an extra day. These are people I have shipped to/purchased from before, so I know how long it should take... Don't know what the deal is.

I see you are in MI too. I've noticed that everything takes 1 more day than it should with USPS to MI. For some reason every package must be routed (and consequently, stalled) thru Grand Rapids. I have yet to receive a 3 day priority package.

USPS kicks butt. My hat off to those overworked underpaid guys and gals. OMG am i the only one who has seen the movie Postman?? When i think about the post office i think about kevin Costner and his gang hard at work.
Post Office is like hotdogs and apple pie, you know, the american way. Weve got "stuff" from California in 2-3 days. Live plants i get usually take onan average three days. Keep up the good work you USPS people you. :headbang2::headbang2::headbang2::headbang2::headb ang2::headbang2::headbang2::headbang2::headbang2:

This started happening in my area a few months ago, all they did was shrug when I asked to of course I then explained that there really was no wonder why people were choosing to NOT use the USPS and I was asked to leave the post office :)

Yup, I have had packages reach GR, say at midnight, and not be delivered the following day. I am only two hours from GR, so why does it take 36 hours for a package to travel that far? It isn't like I am in total podunk. One of the things that makes it worse for me is that my packages go to the sort center in GR, then to the sort center in Traverse City, then back an hour south to me in Cadillac. Ridiculous.

Sadly, you may not get it at all. Happened to me with an order of angelfish. Was supposed to get them on a Wednesday and still haven't seen them. That was about a month + ago. They were not returned to the sender either. They just disappeared into the USPS system to never been seen again!

My main issue isn't the sometimes slow delivery, but the fact that they won't accept any responsibility of allow insurance on live shipments of anything. I've sent out a few packages that were damaged in handling (boxes crushed on one end) that were clearly their fault, but I still had to eat the losses. If they had been boxes of light bulbs they would have been insured and covered...
