View Full Version : Help choosing tank, Marineland vs Aqueon 120g RR

I've just been offered something interesting. For the exact same price I can either get an Aqueon 120g with two standard overflows, or a Marineland 120g with one corner overflow.

My problem is this: the marineland is a nicer higher quality tank, but will the singl corner overflow allow for enough circulation for a co2 injected planted tank?

Which would you go with and why?

i would take the marineland myself. better consstruction would be the big reason. for me, it would end there and i would get the marineland. as for the overflow bit, i would think that could be remedied later on by compensating somehow using a diy setup to replace the overflow. maybe a powerhead for circulation or something.

I wouldn't use a tank with overflow for a planted tank with CO2. As the water passes through the overflow and down into the sump it's going to be exchanging gases at a rapid rate. This will cause you to use alot more CO2 than necesssary.Use an undrilled tank with a suitable canister or canisters.

Thanks, but I'm more than aware ;). I'm using a modified setup and didn't feel it quite necessary to share all the bits and pieces.

To rephrase the question, will one overflow on a 120g provide enough circulation?

I don't really want to add any powerheads to the tank, but I'm fine adding a spray bar or two. Prior to this, the biggest I've done is a 75g, so I'm worried that one point of draw won't be adequte. However, I think it just might be, as long as I split off the output into different areas of the tank.

I prefer 2 overflows but 1 should do the job but I would use a powerhead to increase circulation in a 1 over flow tank.

biggest thing I'd worry about is flow on the floor. how your return plumbing is routed might make a bigger difference than the single overflow.
