I have some red algae (not cyno) on my chaeto in my sump, and I can't figure out how to completely get rid of it. For now, I deal with it, and I manually remove it when it becomes an issue.

I've left the lights off for days, the algae diminishes, but when I turn the lights back on , it slowly starts growing again.

Besides the usual water changes, is there something I could do to completely get rid of it?

I was thinking of running the chaeto through freshwater in the hopes that the algae would die off before the chaeto... Would this work?

Thank you

i wouldnt do it, i know cheato can survive a quick rinse but if somehow it gets stressed cant it go sexual? then youre in big trouble.
i wonder how coral dips would affect it?

from my understanding (and I may be wrong) but I thought Chaeto doesn't go sexual, which is one of the reasons people use chaeto rather than caleurpa.

yeh, ive yet to hear of anybody cheato going sexual
which seems to me like the only bad thing that could happen to you
id fw rinse it n see if it helps, ive done it before when i was transfering cheato that had flatworms on it didnt hurt it seemingly
