Are ocellatus always this shy when you first get them?

I just got 8 ocellatus for my 58-gallon tank and ever since I released them from the bag (about seven hours ago) they have been hiding in their shells and not even poking their heads out. I have a blanket over the aquarium to keep it dark but they still don’t come out. Is this something that I should be worried about? I’ve never had a fish that’s been so shy for such a long time.

What other kinds of fish are in teh tank with them? I had 4 ocellatus in a and they were out all the time, once the male and female paired the other 2 females got beaten up so i moved them to my 90g african hap tank. I added them and they swam down to their shells and i nevr saw them again. I eventually removed them and added them to another tank. After adding them to their own tank they were back to their normal spunky selves.

They may jsut be scared of tankmates, or even still adjusting to their new home. make sure you have a ton of shels to make them feel comfortable.

If you only got them 7hrs ago, I'd sooner think its just them getting used to their new environment. If it continues to go on for a few days, then I might be the tank mates. If you don't have any tank mates with them, then it might help to get some guppies for a while, put them in the tank, guppies swim all over the place and may encourage the other fish to come out of hiding and get used to their new habitat.
