I might be jumping to conclusions but im kinda getting nervous. I recently spotted one of my swordtails with a couple of white dots on his fins. He hasnt been scratching (from what i have seen) but i am still concerned. Then i see my angelicus botia scratching the hell out of himself on some rocks. This is what made me post this question. (i cant see any white spots on him). If this turns out to be ich what can i do in order to prevent it from spreading. How do u combat ich. what are some signs of ich. Please help i dont want my fish to die. Thanks

It does sound a lot like ich. Any photos of the affected areas? For ich, I'd dose a 0.1% solution of table salt (avoid the ones containing yellow prussiate) which is equivalent to a teaspoon per gallon. Be sure to dissolve salt thoroughly first in a cup of tank water or get a bottle to place salt in it and shake it. If after 12 hours the fish seem to tolerate the amout of salt, add another 0.1% solution to a total of 0.2%. It should be effective enough to destroy ich. Some fish can tolerate salt to as much as 0.3%. Keep treatment in there for 14 days. If you must do water changes, redose salt per the water volume you replaced.

Yellow prussiate is like iodide in salt - it's perfectly safe for aquarium fish. These additives are in such tiny quantities that they really aren't a worry.

can you use salt without adding the heat? i have a quarenteen tank, with mollies that have ich,.. i used many days of quick cure and the grains have frayied, but now the female is swimming nose up and just had fry,.. and still not sure what she had no real grains i can see on her (both silver mollies so can redily see,.. but tank has no heater,.. so want to try just salt,.. but not sure how long to treat for,.. never had ich,.. so not sure about it,..

not sure if quick cure can go bad? and not work or just how ich looks after it killed? can only see the ones in his tail and dorsel fins,.. both were swimming upright and male had started swimming regular but kinda hard to tell as his dorsel is huge,..

sorry for the hijack,.. but figured more will see the cures here than in 2 different posts,..
