well been going a little re-arranging after i upgrades one of my vivs from this

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/UseDSC00738-1.jpg

which i had naglected. to a 20 gallon long i converted

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050149.jpg

i'm pretty happy with it and once the plants grow in should look pretty good.

the other tank i've been messing around with finally settled on something that was inspired by mellowvision's 5.5 gallon paludarium.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050151.jpg

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050152.jpg

the main substrate will be a mix of fluorite and some bonsai soil type stuff that has really good drainage. using it mainly because i can incorporate some type of water fall thing that will disappear into the ground. still working out some of the details on that but should be fun.

thanks every one. not sure i would call it a paludarium because there wont be any open space with water (there there will be quite a bit of water though). if i had i bigger tank i would have defiantly had some type of open pond area and i might do that if i ever nab a bigger tank. i actually at first left a little strip open for water in the front but i decided i would like more room for plants and there wants really enough room for me to add any thing aquatic in front. so i moved it up you can sort of tell by the stip of black silicone where i added more egg crate. i also need to find out how well the water feture is going to work too, im using Loc-lines so that might let me have a little bit more control of where thay go.

mellowvision on you paludarium how do you like the loc-lines you used? and how flexible are thay?

They look good. I like that you flipped the 20 gallon like that.

thanks i got the idea and instruction on how to do this from here (http://www.vivariumforum.com/community/terra-construction/68-my-first-vertical-tanks-build-log-pics.html). mine isn't nearly as well done but presentable. that probably has to do with using an old tank with parts of the trim broken and rushing some what. no animals in there but as some point there will be just not sure what. i work in a pet store that has a huge selection of geckos so i have quite a few options there.

Vicious_Fish
11-09-2009, 9:57 PM
You should get a small diurnal gecko species for that tank. Maybe a pair Gold Dust Day Geckos or some type of Lygodactylus species.

Ozymandias
11-09-2009, 10:22 PM
well i like there looks but i think i'm going to hold off and wait for the plants to get established first. the last geck i had was living in my dorm for a good month before i caught him. he later disappeared into my my house never to be seen again (i think he got out side).

I love the loc line fittings, they hold their form where you put them, and are pretty easy to work with. I especially like the inline spray nozzles.

Ozymandias
11-10-2009, 10:32 PM
good to know. i orderd some parts and will see how thay work out. did you have any problems connecting them to the pump? i relised i ordered these but not thought to how thay would connect to every thing.

mellowvision
11-11-2009, 12:42 AM
I hacked it together. there is a threaded locline part with a valve, I used this to connect the locline end, and then stuffed 1/2" eheim hose in the threaded end, which fits tightly over the pump return... it's pretty simple and works well, but it's ugly.

Ozymandias
11-11-2009, 12:51 AM
lol well i'm glad you don't really see that part. now i just have to wait for the stuff to get here (should be tomorrow).

Ozymandias
11-11-2009, 3:47 PM
well got them and i think i should have gotten a size smaller but ill see what i can do with what i have.

mellowvision
11-11-2009, 4:07 PM
did you get the 1/2" ones? those work great... I think the 1/4" ones would be too small for good flow

Ozymandias
11-11-2009, 4:31 PM
got the 1/2" ones but thay look so big in the viv but i made it work with a but of plumber epoxy that is. here are some pictures on what i did

first i thought silicone would work well but it ended up being to messy and i was way to impatient.
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050159.jpg

so i pulled out the plumber epoxy and that was much easier to deal with.

right so been working on this tank off and on for the last few days , i got a two pecies of glass cut to fit the top f the tank (where the screens are because i've always had a problem with to much evaporation and not enough humidity in this tank. the thing is with both in i din't have anought air muvment so i'm going to try it with one fece of glass in and one not.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050171.jpg

next i started planting some stuff from one of my aquariums and suff stuff i've had waiting to be put in this tank. up on the left is Eriocaulon cinereum have it there for time big and to see how big it ends up growing. down below on the ground i have some HC "Hemianthus Callitrichoides" and Peperomia angulata. then above that is an anubais that i got from work that was grown emersed so should do well in this tank. and finally to the right is UG "Utricularia Graminifolia" and a Selaginella sp. going to lett them grow in while i figure out what else to put in there plant suggestions welcome.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050173.jpg

also i started using some aqua soil from a tank i'm going to be breaking down soon so will see how that works out.

finally here are both my tank side buy side

got a crested gecko for the 20 gallon!!!!! he's still young (really young) but he's really cute.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050293.jpg

also the tank is doing really well still need things to grow in and i filled in the water area because it was to much trouble to take care of.

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050308.jpg
and yes that a illy coffee cup up there it's what i'm using temporarily to hold gecko food

also here are some up dates on the other tank added more java moss to the left side sork bark and the other java moss has grown incredibly fast. i've also removed the fern from the left side was over powering the set and planted more UG there.
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/P1050311.jpg

the cryps are going well and i must say ammania sp. 'bonsai' dose well in this set up

Vicious_Fish
12-28-2009, 5:51 PM
Yeah, I think you can add another crested but make sure you know the sex. You don't want two males in that setup. I would also add more things for them to climb on in that tank like branches and vines.

alright will do been meaning to but haven found anything ideal would grape vine work or would that be to soft of wood and rot (i keep it relatively humid in there)

Vicious_Fish

I use grapevine in my crested and Lygodactylus tanks and I haven't had any issues with it. Both enclosures are kept pretty humid.

Ozymandias
01-06-2010, 10:59 PM
well i folowed you advice Vicas an picked up two pecies of grape vine (the my work got in a new shipment the same day lol). and i must say it makes the tank look beter i also added two orchid species. i think thay are Bulb Vaginatum and a Phal. Lueddemanniana species or some sort.

might pick up some more orchids before i head back to school with the tank i know i saw some dwarf species that look really cool. also the gecko (need a name for him/her) seams to really like it and has been exploring alot more. know i just hope he gets enough to eat and doesn't loos track of his food bowl (or the crickets in there)

Vicious_Fish
01-07-2010, 2:43 AM
That tank is looks a lot better now. I really like it and am glad that your Crested does too. Those orchids are a nice idea. I've always wanted to try growing them.

If you are worried about your gecko not finding it's food bowl then put it in a high traffic area. They have a fairly good sense of smell too so it won't go hungry.

Ozymandias
01-07-2010, 2:19 PM
ya i actually put out two things of food and i have seen him go after crickets which is good, so now i'm not so worried about him.

Ozymandias
01-18-2010, 12:06 AM
i know it's not the two tall but i proves alot more room in the with and depth department and i thin the cat gecko should like it. i decided instead of using great stuff with coco fiber siliconed on i'm going to be using tree fern panel and coco fiber panels. main reason for this is because. Malaysian Cat geckos have claws (i've had tham crawl over me) and i'm worried it might not be good for there claws and climbing. also for plants i'm thinking orchids mostly after that i'll decide. still have to figure out lighting because i don't want the temp to get to high for them.

Ozymandias
01-18-2010, 12:14 AM
nope already have one (a young one too) and getting him to call down is what i'm focusing on right now. eventually when i know what sex he/she is i'll get another one for a pair. but right now i'm looking to get Malaysian Cat gecko "Aeluroscalabotes felinus" (http://thegardensofeden.org/Web%20Sub%20FOldes/marcus/marcus/index.html)there's not alot of info on them but here is one of the only care sheets i could fined (http://www.geckosunlimited.com/community/gecko-care-sheets/17639-malaysian-cat-gecko-aeluroscalabotes-felinus-care-sheet.html).

Ozymandias
01-18-2010, 1:54 PM
well from what i see thay breed readily just need to be kept in separate tanks most of the time. i would like to try with them at some point but figure i might try with cretsies first just because there's alot more info on them.

Ozymandias
01-20-2010, 12:02 AM
well put the glass panells and screen on the tanks i need to add a latch tomorrow. also should be geting my coco and tree fern panelling some time this week or next then i have to pick up more wood and some plants, need to find a good tropical nursery near by also a good source of cork bark it's turning into one of my favorite materials for vivs

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/DSCN0233.jpg

also here's a recent picture of the the crestie tank adding in a cork lege with a plant (not sure what really but looks small and should be ok) and massed around with some flatish cork below that so i can plant something there or a vine can climb up it looks pretty good.

well got my treefern panel and coco fiber paneling and man was i not expecting the treefern stuff to quite as thick of the coco fiber so thin but i got it to work and it looks pretty good. still need to add more plants but it finally looks like a viv also need to figure out lighting because i sort of just put a T5-HO light i had lying around from one of my tanks on it for now.

wait witch one there both 20 gallons (lol), my 20 long tall crested gecko has a mixture f coco fiber and sphagnum peat moss don't really clean it out and mostly use the gecko poop as fertilizer. the viv im building now (20 tall tall) has some stuff called fir & sphagnum peat moss mix by Zilla and i actually really like it going to see how it grows plan though.

ya i ment the 20 long tall, but im getting a beautiful dalmatian crested gecko sent to me in a few days but he/she is still small so i have to have he/she in a 5g 10g i have, but meanwhile while time passes im going to work on the converted 20gal that i have been working on. So i already have cocofiber and am now thinking of getting some sphagnum peat moss since you are able to grow just fine with it, but is this all i really need to be growing plants in (besides the lights and water) i also have this extra 30-40 gal filter im not using and was hoping to either incorporated it into the convertaded 20 gal somehow and have some small aquatic thing or either make a simple water fall work, but im not sure if that would be going to far and if that would even work out with the geckos i am planning on breeding in the 20g. but since you are so far on yours and plus you also have a crested gecko :) i wanted to know if you had any suggestions on what im doing, and if the water thing would even be safe with the little guys?

Ozymandias

lol no problem if you look back i actually did have a water feture in the set up but it turned out to be to much work and wasn't planed out as well as i should have been so ya the gecko would be fine with it i think but this is my first really serous attempt at keeping e gecko so even i'm a beginner here. for growing plants on the other hand i know a thing or two. the cocofiber is inert and thats why i add the peatmoss, home depo only sells really big bags of it sadly (like 50 cubic yards or something rediculas for our needs) but there like $11 so you have it for a long time lol. there are alot mixtures people use for growing plants that are safe for geckos and i just use the most basic. i would check out geckos unlimited (http://www.geckosunlimited.com/community/) and Vivarium forum (http://www.vivariumforum.com/community/index.php) those are the two i use and get alot of info out of and viv forum has alot of good build threads to get ideas off of.

Ok, great! that actually helps me out a lot and ya same here basically my first set up for the crested geckos, but i have done so much research on these guys for about 2 months now so im pretty siked to get mine. and i also looked at the link you had up (http://www.vivariumforum.com/community/terra-construction/68-my-first-vertical-tanks-build-log-pics.html) and i was wondering if you are using the same as this guy "Handi Foam" and then siliconing coco fiber on, i want to do this but i was worried that if i did, the coco fiber would eventually go bad or something like that (mold). so i was wondering if i just do the handi foam and then silicone some coco fiber on would it be good for life? or would i have to do some type of interesting replacement?

Ozymandias
01-27-2010, 5:06 PM
ya i did the foam, silicone and cocofiber but used Great stuff foam for windows and doors. i thing i found is the coco fiber need to be bone dry so i used the oven set at around 300 degrees to get this done. also go in small section because if you try to be too ambitious it can just flake off later if it's not properly attached. hell i went in sections but i still have some places where it does that fall off and one bald spot (mostly covered over by plants). that actually why with the new tank i went with the paneling.

well been a while since i posted any pics on here and some things have changed. i've since rebuilt almost all my tanks and gave my white line gecko away but also got a leopard gecko from vicious_fish. so here is the beging of the new tanks, it's a 29 gallon tank that replaces my 20 gallon crestie vert tank. pretty happy with it.

this one has been posted on here but here it is again, my 20 high leo tank

my malaysian cat tank has also gone under renovations too but waiting for the new door hinges to cure before i take pictures of it. (the old glass dor broke along with the glass right below it so i sort of jurry riged something) will get pics up later hope every one likes them.

also my cat gecko layed eggs killed one before i relized it but i still have one left.

the fun thing is i'm not done with the crestie tank i'm going to be adding a fake rock wall (grout and foam) to the right side so i can use it as a drip wall.

alright her is a pic of the new and improved cat tank :)

http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z209/dogska/tanks/P1060021.jpg

i feel this is a more dynamic tank and she should like it better also the roaches can't hide behind the tree fern back ground any more. also at some point i want to replace that door with something else thinking i'll go with acrylic or plexy.

also added some wood to the leo tank, makes it look better i feel but still needs something (my be a different piece of wood?)

ok so i got bored and my leo's 20 gallon was starting to be a pain to clean so i sort of built her a new tank. it's a 20 long with a great stuff and grout back ground. it's not the best picture and will be trying to get better pictures later. hope you guys like.

that was a sand clay mix, honestly it was a bad experiment it was hard to clean and turned almost rock hard
