Hi, I just lost a bumble bee goby today. Ever since I have added co2 to the tank, both of them seemed to have labored breathing. I just noticed that one kicked the bucket this morning. I am just using a DIY co2 setup and actually went with a smaller amount of yeast since it was the first introduction of co2. From what I have calculated using ph and KH, my CO2 when the goby died was only around 15ppm. Are some fish more sensitive to co2 or is there something else that I need to be looking for?

First things first, take out the co2 source and put in a regular airstone connected to an air pump to help gas off some of the co2 this could just save your remaining fish.

15 ppm should not be killing fish. That being said the charts are not all that accurate. But DIY generally should not be putting out enough CO2 to reach toxic levels,

Checked ammonia and nitrite?

Might as well do what was mentioned above for now.

been there, done that with diy... agreed, gas off, start over and don't trust the chart till you know what it is that's skewing your results and fix it. good luck.

Get a drop checker, add an airstone at night, plants don't use co2 at night therefore Co2 poisoning can happen to your fish.

I've ODed with DIY, despite the belief that this can't happen. It can. What pH drop do you get with and without the CO2? If it's more than one full point, then you're injecting too much. The pH/CO2/KH relationship is extremely accurate, but doesn't apply when there are other acids and buffers besides CO2 and bicarbonate, which there almost always are.
