How do you keep the clear tube from turning black on the inside of the tube? There must be a better way than just replacing it all the time. I have tried running fresh water thru it and I do try to get all the water out but there is still some moisture in the tube and after a while the inside starts turning black. This also happens on my tube that I use for the water changes from my tub, Thanks

I have never had this problem - been using a Python for a good 6 years, but perhaps it's a salt-water issue?

I would suggest running some diluted bleach through the hose and then rinsing it well and allow it to dry outside - preferably down a hill so that the water fully drains.

Happens all the time to my two I use on FW. Its a humidity heat thing. It needs to be well drained and allowed to dry. When it does happen, I fill it wiht a strong bleach and hot water solution with both ends in the sink and filling with a pitcher. Allow it to soak for an hour or so and then flush clean.

Someone once posted about something similar. It's mildew, and diluted bleach will get rid of it. You'll have to let the bleach slowly run the course of the whole tube. Then rinse well.

I leave mine attached to the faucet with the siphon opened, fill with bleach until it starts to run into the sink and the whole thing is full. I then close the siphon and wind the python into the sink making sure the suction tube that goes into the tank is upright in the sink. I leave it sit for about 30 minutes then run hot water through it into the other kitchen sink. I do this right after a water change so the python has a chance to dry out.

One thing about python hose, it never goes hard with time as does with common clear hose found at other trades, HD, LOWES, etc.
I have few close to, if not over, 20 yrs and still soft without running boiling water thru.
Whatever you do, dont leave diluted bleach in the hose too long and always keep them drained/dried after use.
No different than brown slimy build up inside pipes, even water filters for home use, after a while. Can you imagine drinking water which went thru those brownish slimes. Yuk!

thanks,
now that you mentioned the brown slime in pipes, I was doing some changes on my CL the other day and noticed this brown slime inside the PVC and was wondering about that stuff also. Isn't it bad for that stuff to cycle back into the tank? Is it a form of diatom like what builds up inside the tank?
