tubifex vs. bloodworms

aren't these really the same thing but with just different names or am I way off.

Commonly, yes, but not really. Tubifex is a genus name of worms--there are several different types. They are usually sold live. Bloodworms are frequently not a worm at all, but rather the larvae of various flies--often, mosquito larvae.
