So I have this snail that seems to have 2 hitchhiking snails on it.
It almost looks they they were both part of the adult snail and kind of split off. They are definately other snails as I see them extending their heads to eat, but they have never left the big snail.
When I first got this snail, I noticed them there, but did not think anything of it. Then one day they moved their location on the snails shell leaving a pearly white spot behind.
Check out the pics below.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Can a snail just split?

That's cool, you get three for the price of one! At my LFS snails are usually $2, so that's a good deal, regardless of how it happened!

Unfortunately, I can't recall the exact type of gastropod it is, but if I remember correctly, those are actually a type of predator that bores into snail shells. I could be wrong, as I don't really recall correctly. These sorts of things aren't that uncommon, though.

eww....that does not sound good. I see if i can find some more info.

Thanks.

Not too sure that is what it is. There are no "bore" holes in the snail's shell. Only a pearly area which was underneath the original location the "hitchhikers" were.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks,

Jason

Hmm, may not be the kind I was thinking of. I'll look some more and see what I turn up. It's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember it.

Barnacles?
