be weary of what websites you go on. I'm usually pretty good at staying away from virusses, but I got screwed this time.
I got one of those "antivirus pro" virusses, where it claims to be an antivirus telling you your computer is infected, when in fact that's a virus in itself.
Anyway, for whoever might get it (like I did), antimalwarebytes is a great free little software that gets rid of it.

thats unfortunate. I cannot believe how many losers out there have nothing better to do than create viruses to make peoples lives miserable. They are the worst kind of cowards and in my opinion worthless human beings.
Hope it works out for you

That's exactly what was going through my mind. getting enjoyment from knowing that something you creating is causing people to get extremely frustrated, and potentially cause lots of information and personal belongings to be lost. Worst of all, they hide behind a mask...

Wished I'd known of this free software I few months ago. I ended up having to reformat. Luckily I had a good recent backup!

My sister got the exact same virus this summer, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware killed it. I was actually a bit impressed that it was designed to look almost exactly like AVG.
Even if you only visit only supposingly safe websites, malware can still get you through banner ads, or if the site has been compromised, etc. The last couple of times I got a virus was from Aquabid, which is something you wouldn't expect.

i have Mcafee its great and it has a little bar up in the top left corner that tells me if a site is (according to the last check) safe. and this HUGE corporation uses their computers and other users to get viruses so mine doesnt =)

add cleanup, spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy, advanced system care and subtract mcaffee from those mentioned so far and you got a pretty powerful coctail of anticrap protection that covers many angles. nothing is perfect though and you'd have to configure them to work best for each individual pc. avast is the best on-access scanner in the business imo and is definitely the one i'd have running all the time if it was all i could run.

I got the same thing. everytime I went to get on the net a homepage for antivirus software came up, wanting $50 for a 3 month trial..
had to get my computer expert brother to fix it. it put a file on the computer that booted up along with windows..
and all my spyware/antivirus stuff is up to date. but it missed it.
and I wasn't even surfing anything naughty LOL
evil websites..
