Hello, I am new to the boards here but have a quick question. I currently have a 29 Gallon tank that houses the following:
1 6" Pleco
1 2" Clown Loach
1 2" Pictus Cat
5 Neon Tetras
4 Guppies
1 3" Bala Shark
1 2" Rainbow Shark
1 3" Chinese Aglae Eater
1 Male Betta
Now I know that I want to add some more tetras cause they are great for color and fun to watch, but could I add more than just some more tetras? I would really like to add at least one more clown loach also. If I can then what types of fish would be suggested. I have been reading the forums and everyone seems to be very educated on these things and although I have read alot of information on fish I still would like some opinions. Thanks in advance for any help.
i wouldn't even think of housing a bala shark or a clown loach in a 29 gallon tank. The will out grow it. I would rid of them and add a school of gourami and add some congo tetra.

you are already well overstocked - the pictus needs lots of swimming room and can get large - the bala will get huge quickly also needs lots of room also does best in a group i have a 55 n woulont consider a bala - clown loaches get huge too but i honestly woul feel comfortable housing two of them in a 29g for some time they are very slow growers in aquariums and rarely reach full size in captivity - most likely because they are stunted - but because they grow slowly i think you can have them in a 29 for sometime but you will have upgrade your tank in the future - on top of all this you have a pleco - we all know they get huge n yours is already iof decent size at six inches - most of your bottom fish are small now but i have some of them n they grow very quick! watch the pictus bulk up in no time! same for the bala , the CAE can get quite big also -
i think you shoul go with a bigger tank if you can n these fish will thrive

Not to be too negative, but right now your tank is a disaster waiting to happen. Too many fish, and too many fish that are going to grow way too big for your tank.
I don't know if I'm telling you something that you already know, but just a few quick blurbs on some of the fish you currently have:
Pleco depending on the specie it could get massive and is a waste producung monster
Clown Loaches will easilly grow to 6 or eight inches and should be kept in groups of at least three in order to make them feel comfortable
Pictus Cat get to around 6 inches (i believe) and should be kept in groups of 3 or more
Bala Sharks get over a foot long and should be kept in groups of 3 or more
Rainbow Sharks get to be 6 inches and can become quite aggressive ti similar fish( ie, it might make life miserable for your loach)
Chinese Aglae Eaters get to at least 4-6 inches and become quite aggresive to any or all fish in the tank and don't eat algea once they grow a little.
Also, many of the fish you have come from varying water conditions, so trouble may also occur in that regard. Hope some of this info helped.

Okay let me clear some issues here lol. I am fully aware of the size issues with a Bala Shark. I have a friend who owns a 110 Gallon tank who is going to take this bala from me when he gets too big for my tank. As for the cat I plan on getting a 55 Gallon in the future when he starts to grow a little more. As for the Pleco I have been told that they only grow as big as their surroundings will allow. Whether or not that is true is a good question. Also I think my fiance is going to start a ten gallon tank and get her guppies out of my tank. I know the loach is going to grow also but I know it will take longer and like I said I plan on upgrading soon to a 55 gallon. I guess I should have put all this info in my original post but I was tired, it was like 3 am and I had been reading on this site for about 2 hours. Anyways thanks for the suggestions and I will look into maybe ridding myself of my shark earlier than I had planned.

I would take out the pictus, the CAE, and the Bala shark....then you yould have room for some more fish. Maybe some otocinclus or some yo-yos if you're a loach lover. they'll help keep your tank cleaner too.

I have decided to let the Bala go early and also the pictus and the CAE. Now just need to know what to add into this tank in its place. Thanks again to everyone for all your suggestions.
Plecos and any fish, will grow no matter the enviroment(in my experiance) that is a terrible myth
as for plecos iv seen a 1ft pleco in a 20gallon tank. was it alive? yes.. was it happy? i doubt it -_-
i would get rid of the pleco aswell it will be better in the long run. you could then get a clown pleco (very cute :P) or a small group of otos
