A little over a week ago I was doing a weekly vacuuming/water change on my 10g when I noticed, or more to the point my fiance noticed, I had sucked a small snail into the water change bucket. Normally I would just dump in with the rest of the water since m tank is over run with pond snails but my animal loving fiance insisted we save him.

This prompted a thorough search of the rest of the bucket. I was looking for snails but low and behold, I found two little fry! I knew my danios (two male and two female) get pregnant just about every week but I had never seen fry. Truth be told, I guess the fry could be from my pygmy cories in the same tank or even my panda cories in the 8g since I changed the water in that at the same time but I think the odds are with the danios.

So, a trip to Petsmart yields a breeder net, some fry food, and half a dozen ghost shrimp! (I haven't been able to find ghost shrimp for months around here, not sure why)

I set up the fry in a breeder net in my ten gallon and have been trying to feed them as often as I can. During the week its generally only twice a day but on the weekends its 3-4 times a day. I have been feeding Wardley's Small Fry at one drop but since I added four more fry (only two of whom I see regularly) after a water change this weekend I've been feeding two drops.

The two first fry definitely seem bigger but I never see them eat. That may be because they're so smail. I also bought some Hikari First Bites which I guess should be fed when they're bigger.

Does anyone know how long it will be before they're big enough to take out of the breeder net? When should I start feeding the first bites instead of the drops? Any help from someone who's been there woould be much appreciated.

What kind of filter are you using? I kept killi fry in a 5 eclipse setup, with a sponge over the intake, so they wouldn't get sucked up. No other fish in there, and they ate vinegar eels and microworms for the first 6 weeks, then moved up to crumbled flake and frozen foods. I gradually changed over by offering a small amount of other foods with each feeding, and making sure they were eating it. then I just increased the amount of larger foods and decreased the amount of small, live foods.

I have a penguin 125 in the tank. I don't have another tank to use at the moment so they're stuck in there in a breeder net for the time being.

I think these little guys might still be too small to eat even the First Bites since it like a powder but I like the idea of offering other food in there with it to see if they'll go for it.

I'm limited in foods I can get in the area. Haven't a clue where I'd even look for vinegar eels or microworms. :D

Hard boil an egg and then put a little of the yolk in the tank. It is messy but the fry will be able to eat it right up and th eprotein is good for getting them to grow bigger faster.
