Hey everyone, I have a question regarding HC. I really love how HC looks in a tank and decided with the 10g tank I am planning on doing planted I want HC in it for sure, lol don't know what other plants I want but HC for sure! I know HC is a pretty light demanding light, I did see quite a few members on here said they were able to grow it under 2.5wpg, so I am hoping since I am doing a 10g tank that 2.5wpg would be good enough for me as well if not I will bump it up. But anyway, for HC I as well notice members say HC usually melts when people use Excel. Now at first I was going to dose Excel in the tank till I read that information. So my next question is does HC do well with DIY CO2?

Any plant will do great with any system that adds CO2 to the water. The bigger factor may be the substrate. Does the sand/gravel/substrate have enough nutrients to keep the plant happy? Decorative gravel and beach sand have NONE. Flourite is a better choice and will help the plants to flourish. Don't forget to add plant fertilizer to the water.

diy co2 should yeild a high enough PPM to grow HC as long as all other conditions are met. your best friend will be a drop checker with true 4dkh solution in it.
HC should probably work
enjoy!

Thanks for the response! This tank is being a slow process, I am trying to get as much info before jumping right away at it. For my substrate I haven't made up my mind yet, I do know I am not using sand, I want a black substrate, at first I was looking a color quartz but the dealer by me no longer sells it. I may do Flourite, do you have a pic of what it looks like so I can get a idea of how it looks?
Ah fertilzers thats another thing I haven't read up on. Do all plants require the same ferts or do I need different ferts for different plants?

Thanks coach_z, I will have to ask my lfs if they sell true 4dkh solution. I now am going have to do a search on what parameters of each material I need for a DIY CO2 set-up as well as how to build!
