I am sure every member of every family has their favorite dish. Post them up!

I love this sweet potato casserole that my grandmother then mother, now I make. Feel free to share recipes as well! I will dig mine out and post it later on.

One of my favorites is a fruit salad my Mom made. It has sour cream, pineapple, mandarin oranges, coconut and small marshmallows. YUM....

Gosh, I like it all!! But if I had to choose, it would be a green bean casserole and not the kind with the french fried onions and mushroom soup...yuk. No, this one is made from scratch. My grandma and then my mom made it. I didn't have it for years as both died when I was young. But 12 years ago, my father gave me the family Bible that he gave my mom's parents in 1959 when he and my mother got married. I was looking through it, and believe it or not, the recipe was marking the 23rd Psalms. So, since I found it, I have made it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Anything with sweet potatoes is awesome!!

But I love the Green Bean Casserole we make . I dont have exact measurements , I wing it everytime.

Roughly a pound of green bean cooked
1 or 2 cans of condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup of milk
garlic (as much as you like)
sprinkle of cilantro ( about 1 tablespoon)
salt and pepper - to taste
French's fried onions (YUM) whole can
Shredded cheese (optional)

Mix the soup, milk , spices and Half of the can of French's. put green beans in casserole dish and pour mixture over it, stir slightly. Add the rest of the French's onions on the top.
Bake @ 325- 350 for about 25 minutes til bubbly.
You can add cheese on top if you like .

You can add other veggies to it if you want. It is always a little different everytime I make it.

YUMMO

Cherry delight that my grandmother taught me to make. Mix dream whip with cream cheese, make a graham cracker crumb crust layer dish with crumb crust and cream cheese mixture with cherry pie filling in the middle.

The stuffing! I make it from all the crusts I cut off of sandwiches for my picky 7 year old. I save them in a zip lock in the freezer and just add to them as I go.

I hand cut them into cubes and dry in a low oven. Then I make the stuffing with onions and garlic and celery and lots of fresh sage and dried poultry seasoning. I mix it all up with some water to the right consistency and stuff the bird and bake. The key is lots of sage! Sometimes I add wild rice or dried cranberry.

Snoopy, I want that greenbean casserole recipe please!!!

I'm not sure if this is my favorite.... but it's a new recipe i just tried after hearing it on NPR. Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish.

2 cups fresh, washed cranberries
1 small onion
3/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish

Throw it all in a food processor. The result will look like chunky Pepto Bismol! Place in plastic container and freeze overnight. Pull from freezer and put into fridge morning of dinner. Should be thawed enough to still have little bits of ice in it when served.

I tried this on a trial run over the weekend, and it was AWESOME! Ingredients make it sound gross, but it is really, really good. Much better than that gelatinous log that comes out of a can, that they call "cranberry sauce".

Granny's Greenbean Casserole

additonal 1/2 stick butter melted and cooled

Preheat oven to 350 F. Melt 1 stick butter in saucepan on medium heat, stir in mushrooms and leave them alone for 5 minutes, add onions and saute until onions are completely translucent. Add flour, cook and stir until flour is tan colored. Add milk and Worstishire sauce, stirring until it comes to a boil, stir in salt, pepper, and papricka. Allow to simmer for 5-10 minutes or until it starts to thicken. Mean while in 2 1/2-3 qt casserole dish add green beans. Pour mixture over green beans, top with mozzerella and crushed corn flakes. Drizzle with melted butter. Put in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

pumpkin pie with lots o whip cream.......mmmm....mmmmm...gooooood!!!!!

Here is another good desert. If you like tapioca pudding, you can substitute it for the vanilla.
Orange Dreamsicle Pudding

1 small box instant vanilla pudding
1 can mandarin oranges, drained well
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip
1 small box orange Jell-O

Dissolve Jell-O in 1 cup boiling water. Add 3 ice cubes to a measuring cup and fill with cold water to make 1 cup. Add to Jell-O and hot water. Stir well until dissolved. Let set for 5 minutes to cool.

With electric mixer, stir the dry instant pudding into Jell-O. Mix well. Let stand for 15 minutes.

Fold in thawed Cool Whip and then the oranges. Refrigerate.

Everything that we make available. Like a kid in a candy store! "I want, I want, I want" oops I'm gonna explode!

Only 1 time has there ever been a dish that turned me off. My Father-in-law and I laid into my sister-in-law for ruining our favorite dish by trying to make it all "natural foods for vegetarians". Since that time, she now eats like the rest of the family at Holidays. She even follows the recipes we have been using for many many years.

A California favorite. Crab Cioppino.

http://simplyrecipes.com/photos/cioppino.jpg

4 large (2 lb or more) cooked Dungeness crab (hard shell) or a cooked lobster
2 pound (or more) of large shrimp
2 pounds little neck clams, mussels, or oysters or all three Sauce
1/2 cup olive oil
1 1/2 cups chopped onion (1 large onion)
1 cup chopped green bell pepper (1 large green bell pepper)
3 coves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1 28 ounce can tomatoes
Broth from the mollusks
2 cups red wine
2 cups tomato juice
2 cups fish or shellfish stock (http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/001794how_to_make_shellfish_stock.php)
An herb bouquet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouquet_garni) of bay leaf, parsley, and basil wrapped in a layer of cheesecloth and secured with kitchen string
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup minced parsley for garnish
Optional seasonings: a dash of Tabasco sauce and or Worcestershire sauce
Method

1 Steam mollusks (clams, mussels, oysters) in a small amount of water (about a cup) until they just open. Set aside. Strain and reserve the cooking broth.
2 If using crab, removed the crab legs from the body and use a nut cracker to crack the shells so that the meat can be easily removed once it is served (leave the meat in the shell). Break the body in half, and then cut each half again into either halves or thirds. Keep the top shell of the crab for making stock.
Note you can use prepared fish or shellfish stock, or you can make your own (http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/001794how_to_make_shellfish_stock.php). If you are not making your own stock, you can discard the crab top shell or lobster body. If prepared shellfish stock is not available, I would combine some prepared fish stock (available at many markets, including Trader Joe's) with clam juice.
3 Split the shrimp shells down the back and remove the black vein. (See how to peel and devein shrimp (http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/005244how_to_peel_and_devein_shrimp.php).) I found the easiest way to do this, without removing the shell, is to lay the shrimp on its side and insert a small knife into the large end of the shrimp, with the blade pointing outward from the back (away from the shrimp and your hands). Once you have split the shrimp shells, you can turn the knife toward the shrimp, and cut in a little to find the black vein. Pull out the vein as much as you can. You can probably also use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut the backs of the shrimp.
Alternatively, you can shell the shrimps and devein them. Shell-on imparts more flavor; shell-off is easier to eat.
4 In a deep 12-quart covered pot, sauté onions and green pepper on medium heat in olive oil until soft. Add the garlic, sauté 1 minute more. Add tomatoes, broth from the mollusks, red wine, tomato juice, fish or shellfish stock, the herb bouquet, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 20 minutes. Remove herb bouquet. Taste and correct seasoning.
5 Add the fish and cook, covered, until the fish is just cooked through, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add the steamed mollusks, crabmeat, and shrimp. Heat just until shrimp are cooked (just 2-3 minutes, until they are bright pink). Do not overcook.
6 Serve in large bowls, shells included. Sprinkle with minced parsley. Serve with crusty French or Italian bread and a robust red wine. Have plenty of napkins available, a few extra bowls for the shells, and nut crackers and tiny forks for the crab.

Do we have to choose just one?

Does ladling turkey gravy over the meat, the stuffing, the yams and the mashed potatoes count?
