Does anyone here have experience keeping mangrove trees in a reef set up? From what i have read online, they are a natural phosphate and nitrate filter. I was wondering if anyone has hands on experience with them?

In terms of uptake of phosphorus and nitrogen, mangroves are largely inefficient. You either need a lot of them or a large plant to get a noticeable effect and even then, uptake is relatively slow, especially compared to algae. If you are looking at natural nitrogen and phosphorus reduction, algae is your friend. I recommend Chaetomorpha when used in a refugium.
