Can you tell the sexes of your meteor minnows that are for sale (would like a mix if possible)? I am interested in 10 or so. My daughter's betta died last night and she has decided that she likes these.

Hmm, I doubt I can sex the young ones at the size they are. I can pull out some of the larger ones and see if I can sex them. Its hard to tell with these and one of the reasons not many people keep them to raise/sell. It can take up to 6 months for their full finnage to come in and to hit sexual maturity. The fins are one way of sexing them. I will do some research and see if I can figure out the genders for her. I will be driving most of the day today to pick up my order, but will try and get it figured out for you before I leave.

can't wait til they're ready! So these won't be shipped until after the holidays, correct?
msjinkzd
12-06-2009, 9:05 PM
That is correct. I would like to observe them and with shipping being hairy around the holidays anyway I feel like my most responsible move would be to hold them :)

all packages paid for and with addresses went out this week. This is my last week for shipping though orders can still be placed.
Has anyone tried keeping the green and black babulti in the same tank to see if inheritance is simple- like briggs where you can breed different colours together and still get aestheticly pleasing offspring- or are they like Neocaridina shrimp where the offspring of any two different colours always end up brown?
(or do they even have amarous eyes for each other?)
msjinkzd
12-08-2009, 2:49 PM
I would assume they would hybridize. I have not kept them together though both throw alot of the same colors. I don't know that they have a displeasing coloration as they range from brownish red, to green, to almost black, to blueish to bright yellow to dark green.

I will only ship fish EXPRESS in the winter. Inverts can still do priority but the temperature is just too extreme for fish n o matter how well I try and package them. Priority will become available for fish again when the temps come up in the spring. Its not work it to me to make a few dollars and risk the wellbeing of the fish.
