How long would you wait to ask for a raise after being hired?

Well, I've been there 4 months. My boss continually praises my work, and they just fired someone else so they could keep me after my grant ran out.
I work in mental health. Now that I have made progress with a lot of the patients it would be difficult to replace me. But then again I know their budget is tight....

I would wait, 4 mnths is too soon to ask for a raise. If they short changed you on ur starting rate that should have been discussed when you got hired. Just be glad you still have a job.

I cannot agree more Arturo. In this climate mental health jobs are the one of the first on the chopping block. Perhaps the person that got fired was let go to make room for you and they made more money. What is to prevent your employer from doing the same to you when they can hire someone else for less. BTW, nobody is ever irreplaceable ;).

I agree with most of what is posted above, even though it sucks wait as long as you can. 4 months is too soon, really if I were employing someone I would not look to give them a raise until after a year. Unless they were on something like a 6 month probation.
