so i have been doing my research on this "ribbon snake" they seem very interesting and i like the decent size of 3-4 feet long, but i have a question on that note and its if a 20 gal is really big enough? i think i would just get one but im not so sure about these guys i was hoping to get some "better" care information from owners. i mean i have read and done a lot of research but i would like to get some what i think would be more unbelievably information on here. and i would APPRECIATE ANY HELP :) ! I have been going crazy trying to do this by myself.

IF this is your first snake, keep on looking.
I do not recommend Ribbon snakes as your first snake due them being flighty and tend to be more fragile than other snakes.
IF you want a nice striped snake I recommend a striped corn.

This is a bad idea for any snake in general. This would cause Blister disease and would eventually kill the animal.

It is better to keep large bowls of water than a bool that you want to do in cage.

I recommend reading up on some basic snake care books. Avoid natural looking environments. Best setup is aspen bedding, water dish and hides. Trust me it makes clean up much easier and the snakes do not care either.

Garters are better captives and look very similar. But man do they stink!

Basically Ribbon Snakes are really thin Garter Snakes. ;)

Most Colubrid snakes Musk. Its a defensive measure to protect them. It can be a strong odor but Garters and Ribbons are not that bad. You should hold a King Rat snake aka Stinking Goddess.

The reason I do not recommend Garters and Ribbons is that they will require live foods or mainly fish. I have a garter and its a great snake but I prefer mice eaters. They are far easier to keep. No need to feed twice to 3 times a week. Fish seem to go through snakes faster than "Red" Meat. I was happy when I got my water snake fully converted to mice. He has grown faster and eats less.

Again, I recommend a corn snake as your first snake. They are a very hardy species and are less forgiving to mistakes that the Garter family.
