View Full Version : Honey Gourami
So awhile back I added a honey dwarf gourami (actually he was labeled honey flame dwarf gourami). He has since gorwn to full size and now spends most of the day hiding in the Java Fern. Is this normal gourami behaviour or is mine just shy? Also his honey colour remains on most of his body but he is also darkening quite a bit. Is this just a variation in colour or does this happen a lot to the adults? Our Chocolate gourami is still doing his thing, though has definatley upped his aggresion as he has matured (nothing too bad).

Pretty normal. The deepening of color indicates maturity and health--pale fish are not healthy. My honey's are similarly reticent. They hang out at the back of the tank or under the plants, but come out for feeding. They will dart back the second someone walks by their tank, but come out soon after.
That's good to know. He does have a fat little belly so I assume he is doing fine (not obesse or anything, just plump). He does come out in the evening to chase the flying fox for about 20 minutes or so. He starts by swating him with his feelers across the head. It is a funny game to watch (not sure how the fox feels about it though).
