Feeder fish tank freebie

I was at VetSmart looking at that had arrived the night before a little tradition of mine. Anyway I was noticed some pretty nice Oranda looking Goldies in the feeder fish tank when suddenly I spotted a Goldie with arms which turned out to be a nice size Crayfish looking pretty healthy from all the pray in the tank. So I asked how much and they said it was a freebie because they have to throw it out. So they bagged him up and I put him on his own side of a divided 80 tank that I plan to put a few feeders in to keep him company, not wanting to upset the balance of his natural envromnet at VetSmart LOL.
I hope he live a long time and getS huge. Any care recomendations?

Well I was worried about him for the first couple of days wondering if the few feeders were going to leave enough food for him to eat, worrying that he might starve. But it appears I had nothing to worry about as these guys naturally can take care of themselves the way they were obviously meant to. Amazing how well they blend into even the ornamental plants and how they can both climb and hand on to food.

they are very hardy. enjoy him. you can feed them sinking pellets too since only goldfish in his diet isnt exactly the best source of nutrition. they dont require much, but you cant keep anything you want to live with him.

I guess I was hedging my bets becasue I did drop him a couple of sinking meat lovers pellets in there yesterday but he must have passed on them cause that the 1 small feeder was still there and lively, how he caught him is a mystery.

I figure the feeder breeders must place the crayfish in there tanks to control the number of dying feeders becasue VetSmart told me they find them in the feeder tank all the time.

Anyway I plan to keep him segregated and hopefully find a few more crustations, I was hope even crabs with a diving bell on the bottom. Offer them sinking pellets but also maintain a few feeder minnows just to give them a life, I figure they will go for what they feel is needed.

On the other side of the divided 80 tank I just placed 3 large Hover Fish that just arrived from WalSmart for $4 each and plan to keep them alone as I hear they are strictly a species fish I have planty of rocks/plant hiding places so hopefully they will settle in.

Nice find! But what is a Hover fish?

Edit: Disregard. I saw your other posting--nice puffers! Also, I am thinking that this crayfish is a P. clarkii as they can tolerate brackish water for a bit. Their lifespans are shortened if kept in brackish conditions.
