Hi Friends,

With great difficulty and a lot of search I'll finally be able to get a few Julies - Transcriptus and I want to keep them with my Frontosas. The current tank mates are as below -

1. 7 Yellow Labs - Just to add a splash of Color
2. 11 Leleupis - to bring in the Tang Community feeling
smile.gif

3. 8 Serpae Tetras - were intended as food but ended up being friends and tankmates...lol..
4. 4 Zebra Loaches - had 12 but removed 8 last week - planning to remove the existing 4 too ( that is if I'm able to catch / trap them )
5. More than 30 Ghost Shrimps - again food becomes tank mate...
6. A few Bristle Nose Plecos
7. 6 Zebra Nerite Snails
8. Lots of MTS ( malaysian trumpet snails ) - still looking for more as my Loaches have drastically reduced the population...

I'm just hoping that my fronts dont turn in to mosters suddenly - really worried for my Leleupis, for now...

The Serpae Tetras were only 1" when they were added to the tank and the ghost shrimps were very small too - till date even my largest front has never chased or harmed any of the smaller tank mate... but I guess one can never be sure with Cichlids...

Kindly guide me if I may add the Julies to the tank or should I first try to breed them and then keep the excess babies in the Frontos tank ( after growing them a little that is )

Please guide me Friends...
Thanks and Regards
Kush

Yeah its a hit or miss type situation because once the Front's hit that age of maturation anything that will fit in their mouth will be food surplus and a huge waste of money for you.. be careful you are embarking upon a disaster.. It all may be good for now but don't be surprised to find fish missing one day..

Yes i do know you have a few that are huge and i too wonder why they haven't eaten your smaller fish and shrimp i believe maturity plays a role right now..

ive read that fronts eat cyps when they get bigger, and the transcriptus stays smaller than the cyp, so i think they would become food. go for a bigger species of julidochromis.

if i ever got fronts i would put julidochromis regani with them. thats the one that reaches like a foot in lenth. there are many different color morphs of that species.

i think its somewhere around a foot. i could be wrong though

What I have read about all the J. regani variants, says their maximum size is 5 inches...???

hmm. a quick check on cichlid-forum proves me wrong. wow, i have the book, "The Complete Book Of The Freshwater Aquarium" By Vincent Hargreaves and im pretty sure it said it in there. lol, gosh dangit, thats the only reason why ive never bought regani was because i thought they got that big! lmao
