So I have a 55 gal that I'm trying to empty out and start with new stock based around one angel that I will rehome from my 125. Right now I have a male blue gourami in my 125 and a female in the 55. If put together they don't play well. Do you guys think adding another female or two to the mix would spread out the aggression enough that they could live together in my 125? Or should I just be looking for a new home for one of them? My 125 stock is posted in my tanks.

Spreading aggression wouldnt be a good idea. Seeing as two of the gouramis may pair up, therefore more thsn doubling the amount of bullying / aggression that the paired fish dish out. It wouldnt end well. I say keep them separate or just keep one.

You can have a couple more FEMALE gourami but only 1 sexually mature male gourami per tank. Males do not play nice with each other. Gourami do not "pair" and more females will divert the males attention and spread out his aggressiveness. The problem with just a pair is....he wants to spawn and if she isn't ready, he beats her up. So with more girls, the likelihood is there that one of them will be ready when he is.

Another thing I'd like to add, Gouramis are related to Bettas. They can be kept alone in a small tank. I've kept a Gourami in a tank all by itself and it did great, until it committed suicide. Dumb fish. but it was a good fish. Good luck.
