If that was a poisonous snake, that woodpecker is a gonner!

It's amazing what a creature will do to protect it's young.
Looks like the snake got into the woodpecker's nest. When the snake first stuck it's head out of the hole you could see the bulge in it's throat from it's recent meal.

apparently the snake is non venomeous, and was eating the eggs of the woodpecker.

That looks like a Pileated Woodpecker and some type of Rat Snake (non venomous).

blue2fyre got it right -- The snake is having eggs (or live baby birds) for breakfast and has gotten into the woodpecker's nest. The bird is not crazy, she's defending her eggs and/or babies, that snake has likely had a meal already. Nature is mean -- that's the way it goes.

yep snake has had breakfast and momma bird was pissed. hope she survived that was some serious shakin she got
