Today I set up a betta bowl in my office - its a really nice big brandy glass design, just right for one betta.

Took some substrate and plants from my main home tank and got some nice pieces of wood...picking up some moss and the betta tomorrow...only thing I don't like is the gravel I got turns out to be quite purple when in water :y220d: might change that.

Picking up the betta tomorrow...will post pics :)

This is my first betta - I was going to do something more ambitious in the office but this was more practical. Looks great beside my bonsai trees.

Havn't named the little fellow yet...he sort of reminds me of a certain judge...

How many gallons does it hold? If it is under 2.5 gallons then a lot of people will probably feel that it is too small (myself included).

Here are a few tips:):

Bettas are also tropical fish and should have a heater.

I also feel that they should have a filter that has bio-filtration.

Also it is a myth that Bettas come from mud puddles and like to live in small places.

Please tell me you have a heater, and that you're going to do large water changes every couple days!

I have a male betta in a 10G that is also an “aquatic plant nursery”.
It’s also heated. He’s also got a small mirror where he can “preen”.
He’s a very happy little guy.
Odd thing is; he was solid blue when I got him about 18 months ago.
Now his fins are showing some red and white also. He’s patriotic as well.
Can’t wait to see your new one.

Just put him in...seems the driftwood and plants from my home tank has had a decent effect on cycling the water - I'll be doing daily water changes anyway - which will take eh five minutes. I've also added a little ammo lock just to be safe.

He's a nice fish - Red finnage, black and blue accents...crown tail...a little bit spooked by the new surrounds and making use of any available cover just now.

My planned method of heating the tank did not work out...for now I have a heat pad under it and it is in the sun...also the office is kept at a pretty balmy 22 Celsius so I'm hoping that will do for now...will try for some pics tomorrow or the next day.

Just as I type this he's come out from his driftwood and is pottering around the tank - no signs of distress that I can see...:)

edit...and how he's flaring at my finger...nice :D

I seem to have also inherited a couple of snails from the LFS.

Well, he seems to have made it through the night - the heating arrangement worked pretty great actually - positively toasty...looks a bit zonked though - probably not an early riser, no more than myself.

I'll give him a large water change this afternoon.

Durnit I dun forgot me camera oops
