iv been thinking this was an algae but it looks so much like a coral that i just had to ask. i cant see any polyps or anywhere that polyps could go, and its rock hard

also i was wondering if anyone had seen anything like this algae, looks like thin tightly packed chaeto

The first just looks like a branching coralline alga. The second looks more like Cladophora or something similar.

Branching coralline algae... that's pretty cool, even though it's not a coral.

Just be sure to keep your calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels in the proper ranges. With those in check, it should grow just fine.
