Hi I am new to fish keeping I have a tank for my grand children with 2 fantails in it. I have a filter and an aeration system. they have been happy and healthy for well over 3 months now (the fish that is )
I addition to normal flaked fish food I feed the fish bloodworm twice a week as i was advised when i bought the fish. i usually feed the bloodworm from the packets (tetra range) but early this week i gave them fresh bloodworm and some fresh daphnia from another pet store as i thought they would enjoy chasing their food. Since I fed that to them the silver fantail has been gradually turning black from the tip of its head backwards have i done something wrong?

I dont want to harm them in any way so any help will be much appreciated

Welcome to AC :) How often are you changing water and how much? Have you tested the water to see what the ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte levels are? Goldies nedd LOTS of vegetable matter in their diets I would suggest not feeding the bloodworms.

Welcome to AC! Petluvr is right on target. I have two tanks of goldies and they get orange pieces, peas and chopped green beans on a regular basis. You don't say how big your tank is, but goldies tend to need a lot of room and make a huge mess, so don't be surprised if they need more space in the future.

As to the coloration, if all of your parameters are normal, I wouldn't worry about color change (although I think it is unusual to have a fish turn black, which is one of the most unstable colors in goldfish.) I had an entirely black "moor" turn into an entirely orange telescope. Clearly it was mismarked, but you can see how the color can completely morph. Good luck!

Welcome to AC! Take a look at our Coldwater Forums and post a thread with your questions if possible.
