i just ought a rock with a couple mushrooms on it. i know mushrooms are low light and low current corals, my question is that i have a 55 gl with 300 wats of pc on it. i placed the rock more twoards the top of the tank cuz thats where the rock fit best, is that a problem, can they get too much light?? or are they fine with that much light that high in the tank??

I too have a 55 gal, but I only have 110 watts of lighting. My mushrooms have doubled in the year that I have had them , they are spreading like wild. I have them half way up in my tank, so with yours I would just try putting them lower if they look like they are not happy that high up. Hope it helps.

skooby,

Besides light and good water quality, what do you do to take care of your mushrooms? What do you add to your water? Iodine? Calcium? Any other supplements? Do you put anything in to feed them?

i add iodine, calcium, magnesium, strontium. as for feeding, i havent decided what to go with yet. any reccomendations, that dont pollute the water?

If the mushrooms don't like where they are, they will migrate, by the way. I had one fairly low in a 20 with 130 watts of PC, and it has been moving toward the shade, leaving babies along the way. I would only worry about the mushrooms if they bleach or fail to open.

Be careful with additives. If you choose to use them, it's a good idea to test. With iodine, for example, there's probably plenty coming in with food.

I do weekly water changes first, they love that. I also feed once a week "Snow" for inverts, and I target feed every two weeks. My mushrooms move but it is just next to the other ones. They dont migrate persay.
