Love 'em or hate 'em, the world's biggest retailer is ubiquitous. Like McDonald's, they are everywhere that we are. That being said, this also provides us with a chance to share a broader selection of ideas for saving money that just about anyone on the planet can repeat.
It seems that more AC members find fish keeping supplies in WalMart's other departments than they do in the pet aisle. Thought it might be neat to see what else everyone has come up with.
So far I've read about poly fill (green labeled bag) and poly quilt batten from the sewing aisle. Personally I cut up their washable furnace filters to fill 30g. & 55g. barrels for pond filters.
When I test tank water I've got a load of test tubes to wash and dry. Found a folding thread spool storage rack that fits the bill nicely. (slip a piece of vinyl hose over the the too short spool dowels)
Started playing with some ideas that I read about here for a drip water changer. Most of the parts that I needed I found I had left over from a $20-$25 drip irrigation kit that I bought there a couple of years ago.
Retrofitted a couple of old hood lights with T-5 under cabinet units that can be daisy chained for multiple lights in the same hood or firing adjacent tanks without running excessive amounts of extension cords or wasting power strip outlets. (actually found them a lot cheaper at Big Lots a week later).
What else ya got?
