i'm a relative newby, set up my first tank (a 12 gallon nano) about 6 months ago. just finished setting up a 70 gallon reef. never very careful (until now) about gloves or diligent enough in washing my hands. kind of anal about my nano and constantly moving stuff around.

i just read your threads on toxins released by zoos and the link at reef central. my question is this, does anyone know what kind of doctor would be familiar with the symptoms associated with contact with zoos and corals? anyone know of a doctor of this type in the NY area?

since october, i've been having dizzy spells. very brief, for a few seconds after i stand or turn my head. it started with a stiff neck for 10 days straight. i was bed ridden for a month - couldn't lift my head off the pillow. waves of nausea, etc.

been to the neurologist, endocrinologist, ear nose throat guy and contrary to popular opinion - i'm normal.

just started going back to work, but can only do about 4 hours a day. i'm weak and exhausted. common theory of all the docs is that my condition is stress related.

do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

I've never heard of this but I suppose there's an allergic reaction for everything to someone out there. Try posting this on www.reefcentral.com/ They have a million members. I'm sure someone could help you out.

Are you in an area where you may have gotten a tick bite? Lymes symptoms are varied and it probably wouldn't hurt to get tested for lymes's if you may have gotten bitten.

I would go to the doctor with a list of the corals you've been exposed to, and tell them you are concerned that you may have an allergy to one of them, or been exposed to a toxin from them. Then, they can search their databases and see if there's anything that relates.

Some corals are deadly, so it's best to take this seriously and have the doctors do the research--they'll be able to determine what tests may be needed.
